WCIRB is Hiring a Remote Marketing and Communications Manager - Hybrid

The Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) is California's trusted, objective provider of actuarially-based information and research, advisory pure premium rates, and educational services integral to a healthy workers' compensation system. The WCIRB is a California unincorporated, private, nonprofit association comprised of all companies licensed to transact workers' compensation insurance in California, and has over 400 member companies. No state money is used to fund its operations. The operations of the WCIRB are funded primarily by membership fees and assessments.

To accurately measure the cost of providing workers' compensation benefits, the WCIRB performs a number of functions, including collection of premium and loss data on every workers' compensation insurance policy, examination of policy documents, inspections of insured businesses, and test audits of insurer payroll audits and claims classification.

The WCIRB employs approximately 175 people. The home office is located in Oakland, California.

Summary 

The Marketing and Communications Manager contributes to the development and implementation of the Customer Experience strategy and executes the marketing and communications deliverables. The Manager oversees the WCIRB’s brand, including actively promoting its unique position in the California workers’ compensation system in support of WCIRB employees, member insurance companies, agents and brokers, employers, injured workers and regulatory agencies. Responsibilities include: (1) Planning and implementing all facets of the WCIRB’s marketing and communications initiatives, informational and promotional campaigns, and content design. (2) Enhancing the company’s online presence and administering and maintaining digital marketing assets (public website, social media platforms, webinars, videos, infographics, etc.). (3) Building and maintaining relationships with cross-functional teams to drive customer awareness, engagement and adoption of WCIRB products and services. (4) Leading, developing and directing the efforts of the Marketing and Communications team. (5) Managing the department budget, policies and procedures, and outside vendor relationships. 

The Manager reports directly to the Managing Director, Customer Experience. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Establishes clear and measurable objectives for direct reports, and provides ongoing direction and guidance for the team’s projects and deliverables. 

  • Collaborates with department and business teams on the formulation and implementation of a multi-channel marketing and communications strategy and execution roadmap. 

  • Leads the design and implementation of promotional, informational, educational, and brand campaigns and materials to drive customer adoption and engagement. 

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of the WCIRB’s customers and uses data-driven insights to identify opportunities to improve the customer experience and the WCIRB’s brand value. 

  • Leads strategic marketing initiatives to develop compelling content, enhance the WCIRB’s online presence (e.g., public websites, social media platforms, webinars, etc.), and effectively communicate WCIRB’s products and services. 

  • Maintains department project planning calendar, provides project plans and progress updates to key stakeholders and to leadership, and conducts quality assurance reviews. 

  • Enhances and maintains the WCIRB’s brand image and standards, and ensures the tone of communications across all customer channels is consistent, relevant, and engaging to the audience. 

  • Manages the department’s budget, policies and procedures, ensuring compliance, and alignment with corporate standards and the overall Customer Experience strategy. 

  • Manages, evaluates and proactively engages with external vendors to develop mutually beneficial partnership relationships. 

  • Stays abreast of marketing and communication best practices and industry trends. 

  • Oversees the continued redesign of properties, pages or sections of the company website and social media assets. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in marketing, marketing research, communications or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience successfully leading teams within marketing or communications functions. 

  • Demonstrated success as a collaborator in the formulation and implementation of marketing strategy, product and service campaigns, and customer value measurement, preferably within the property and casualty insurance industry.

  • Project management experience required.

  • Experience with various digital platforms (multimedia, websites, social media platforms) and with executing a wide variety of content, including digital, print and email. 

Leadership, Management and People Skills 

  • Excellent project management and business planning skills. 

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a deep understanding of customers’ strategic business needs and critical success factors, utilizing inquiry and analytic techniques. 

  • Proven ability to successfully lead and develop creative teams by providing positive, values-based leadership and coaching to staff. 

  • Regularly seeks input from the team on the strategic direction and vision of the products and services they support.

  • Identifies KPIs for the team, supports development of their skills and promotes an environment where employee autonomy is encouraged.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build diverse and collaborative business relationships at all levels, including the CEO and other executives.

Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record 

Physical Demands

Job requires both sitting at a workstation (70%) and moving about the office (30%). 

Significant amount of time spent at a PC using keyboard and/or mouse. 

Significant amount of time spent on telephone.

The Manager will reside in the State of California and actively participate in the hybrid working structure of the WCIRB with an expectation of being in-office at least 40% of the time or more, based on business requirements.

  • Work requires attention to detail, follow-through, and analysis of collected information 

  • Frequent interaction with President, Sr. Vice Presidents, Direct Reports, and Staff Functions.
