Waypoint Services for Women Children and Families is Hiring a Lead Teacher Near Rapids, IA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Site Director, the Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing activities for children while assigning and monitoring the Assistant Teachers’ activities.

This position will be in the KidsPoint Downtown Green Room.

TIME COMMITMENT:

40 hours per week. Typical hours are between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise general operations of the classroom, including the management, supervision, and discipline of Assistant Teachers
  • Plan, implement, and supervise activities and educational experiences which promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of the children in the classroom
  • Plan and implement age appropriate curriculum to ensure quality early learning programming
  • Ensure compliance with all child care licensing standards as defined by the Iowa Department of Human Services
  • Provide leadership and training for Assistant Teachers
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required written documentation (i.e., incident reports, daily grams, room journals, etc.)
  • Use positive guidance methods of discipline
  • Provide daily communication with parents
  • Provide and maintain a neat, organized classroom, take responsibility for the upkeep of all materials
  • Eat all meals and snacks with children and assist in development of healthy nutrition habits
  • Help establish good toileting and personal hygiene habits with each child
  • Supervise activities at all times to ensure the safety of each child
  • Maintain progress records for each child’s growth and development, preparing and discussing progress reports with parents/guardians two times per year
  • Communicate with parents to encourage understanding of growth and development and participation in classroom activities
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences
  • Assist other child care staff in areas of individual teaching expertise
  • Actively assist in keeping center enrollment at capacity
  • Complete 6 hours of professional development annually, 2 of which must be in a sponsored group setting (10 contact hours during the first year of employment, 4 of which must be in a sponsored group setting) with 1.5 hours related to CACFP
  • Provide guidance, support, and structure for program volunteers

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITITIES:

  • Comply with all Waypoint policies and procedures as outlined in the Waypoint Employee Handbook
  • Be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the total work environment
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must show evidence of security and judgement to handle crisis situations and the ability to work with parents and children in a classroom setting
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field or an Associate’s Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education with 1 year of teaching experience or a Child Development Associate (CDA) certification with 2 years of teaching experience in a licensed child care setting is required.
  • Be at least 18 years-old and complete the following trainings once hired:
  1. Pre-employment physical examination including testing for communicable diseases
  2. TB skin test taken within 6 months prior to the start date completed by a licensed physician and repeated every 3 years
  3. First Aid and CPR certification within the first year of employment, with First Aid being renewed every 3 years and CPR being renewed annually
  4. Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter training within the first 6 months of employment and repeated annually
  5. 1 hour of Universal Precautions and Infectious Disease Control training within the first 6 months of employment and repeated annually
  • Receive a negative report on the Waypoint/Department of Human Services Non-Law Enforcement Records Check and the National Criminal History check; conducted every two years
  • If required to drive a Waypoint vehicle, Lead Teachers must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable to meet the requirements of Waypoint’s insurance provider
