Overview

The Business Intelligence Manager will lead a team of BI Analysts & Data Engineers to work closely with leaders across the business to understand and execute their reporting and analytics needs. This position requires strong project management skills, as well as advanced knowledge of both business processes and technologies that align with WSC business objectives. Additionally, this person will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of quality and service, maintaining strong communication channels with the business and IT partners. They will work collaboratively with peers from other applications and technology domains in the definition and maintenance of technology roadmaps, as well as process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Duties to include, (but not limited to):

  • Manage a team of Data Engineers and BI Analysts in support of key business initiatives
  • Develop BI roadmap, strategies, and processes
  • Help translate business questions into quantitative methods used to answer them and support data-driven strategic decision making
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to refine ETL, data warehouse, and BI tools/methodologies
  • Ensure data quality by developing a culture and process around data validation and monitoring
  • Develop and lead an ongoing training program for BI users including in-person, on-demand, and ad hoc training
  • Develop and maintain a detailed data dictionary and other written documentation
  • Manage open projects, the intake of new requests, project backlog, and work with the BI Steering Committee to assign priorities to work tasks
  • Perform hands-on work as needed including the development of reports, dashboards, and KPIs
  • Provide occasional after-hours support on an as-needed basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned

A Business Intelligence Manager will possess and/or demonstrate the ability to:

  • Maintain professional phone etiquette and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrating excellent oral and written communication
  • Remain highly organized, flexible, and able to react well to immediate issues with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Learn new technologies and keep abreast of the latest technological advances
  • Be motivated by the desire to make a difference in the business through collaboration with business stakeholders
  • Identify solution partners to help accelerate the BI effort
  • Perform basic database queries using SQL
  • Map out data architecture, infrastructure and tools selection

Qualifications

Education / Experience:

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Information Science or related field and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience or 7 years of equivalent experience.
  • 2 years' experience managing and developing a Business Intelligence team
  • Proficient with source control, change management practices and Power BI
  • Experience with Infor CSDE/M3, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Phocas, or Birst Analytics a plus, but not required

Working Demands / Physical Requirements:

  • General office conditions with continuous sitting with heavy computer usage
  • Occasional short-term out-of-town travel for educational purposes
  • Occasional after-hours support
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
