JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for operating a variety of equipment to maintain county roads, right-a-ways, and drainage systems as required to maintain the infrastructure of Ware County.
MAJOR DUTIES:
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Road Superintendent may assign work in terms of general instructions. The work is spot-checked in progress and upon completion for compliance with instructions, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include state DOT road maintenance and traffic guidelines, county and safety policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are clear and specific, but require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties in maintaining county roads and rights-of-way. Inclement weather, material obstructions, soil conditions, equipment failures, and traffic contribute to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment to improve and maintain county roads and rights-of-way. Successful performance helps ensure safe and serviceable county roads and drainage systems.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is performed with the employee sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles or gloves.SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
