Job Summary: The Senior Manager, Software Engineering is responsible for the activities and deliverables of the Embedded Software group, demonstrating accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. You will apply your knowledge of management, software development methodologies, best practices, and proven processes to deliver a quality software product on budget, within planned schedule with quality. In this role you will manage a team of talented software developers, responsible for assigning tasks, training and career development. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Develops embedded software, simulators and support tools for the Positive Train Control (PTC) product lines. Responsible for managing the work deliverables of the software development team. Direct management of team members (individual contributors). Maintains the software team development backlog and communicates status, (e.g. prioritization, estimated time to complete, and completion percentage) with stakeholders. Develops project estimates based on defined scope and customer acceptance criteria. Maintain resource plans necessary to execute approved programs that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements. Responsible for establishing software development and software test methodologies, RAILS development process, industry standards (e.g. AREMA, CENELEC), and adherence to Wabtec’s cyber security policy and secure development processes. Responsible for software quality processes, e.g. design and code reviews. Recruit, train, develop and retain team members. Provide regular feedback and annual feedback cycle for every employee. Manage outsource partners to provide additional resources to increase team capacity. Provide necessary feedback to manage performance of team members. Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments to customers, internal stakeholders and executive management as appropriate. Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures. Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical and program requirements, schedules and contract commitments. Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems. Qualifications: BS in Software Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering is required and MS in a similar discipline is a plus with 10 years of work experience. Experience developing locomotive electronic architectures, including module selection, module configuration, software configuration. Experience building and managing a team of direct reports and external contractors. Previous experience developing safety critical projects following industry standards (e.g. ISO 50128 (CENELEC), EN 61058, ISO 25119, ISO 26262 or similar) Previous experience applying cyber security policies and best practices, including secure development lifecycle. Technical Leadership experience in managing schedules and resource loading, resolving technical challenges and driving projects to completion. Solid work experience with SCM, change management, defect tracking, software build and release processes. Experience in implementing a good development process including requirements tracing with tools (e.g. DOORS NG, IBM RTC) Effective oral and written communication skills, ability to articulate clearly and concisely.
