EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • College or Equivalent.................. Bachelor Degree or higher in Supply Chain Management required. APICS certification strongly preferred.
  • Job-Related Experience.............. 5-10 years in supply chain and 2-5 years management experience

POSITION SUMMARY: The Materials Manager will lead the Materials Team. They will continuously drive improvement in the materials planning function to minimize inventory, eliminate part outages, and minimize overall logistics costs to the organization. They will develop a highly effective materials organization, standardize planning processes, improve material flow within the facility, and manage suppliers to improve customer service and reduce lead time. Expectations are to meet or exceed the BHAG performance standards and to attain Company objectives. The success of this position is based on meeting these goals and effectively carrying out the following “Core Duties and Responsibilities.”

CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead all internal materials management activities
  • Communicate with operations on shortages, anticipated shortages, expediting status, etc
  • Provide guidance to direct reports on ordering model parameters, quotes files, safety stock, etc., to optimize inventory levels
  • Manage & Report Internal Scrap/ Yield tracking programs
  • Knowledge and application of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes
  • Lead and manage the annual physical inventory process
  • Communicate with Buyers on issues relating to supplier performance; billing, receiving and quality
  • Use vendor scorecards to measure vendor performance
  • Meet new product introduction objectives (timing, quality, system set up)
  • Perform various materials related projects and analysis as assigned
  • Support the corporate inventory and turns initiatives
  • Support all metrics as set by the Plant Manager
  • Support the Continuous Improvement Process as well as material cost reduction goals
  • All other duties as assigned

Problem Solving/Decision Making: Strong communication, leadership, troubleshooting, managerial, and analytical skills are required.This position requires the ability to utilize competent and reasonable judgment as to the purchase of raw materials that comprise our products. Logic is applied in a consistent and informed manner to analyze material by cost, order quantities, storage capabilities and quality. Industry standards and vendor reliability are also essential components to the decision making process. This position requires strong mathematical and analytical skills. Good organizational skills are essential. Proper telephone and email etiquette, business writing skills and company core values are needed. Additionally, skillful problem solving is necessary.

SPECIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to communicate with all levels of management and suppliers both verbally and in writing. Mastery of advanced functionality in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with integrated materials / production systems (MRP, ERP, Oracle). AS400 experience (ability to write and modify queries). Ability to work with and maintain confidential information. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment. Strong initiative and drive to resolve problems and implement process improvements. Uphold Company Core Values of integrity, honesty, trustworthiness and performance competency.
