Overview

Scientific Drilling is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work at our Yukon, Oklahoma Facility. Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide. Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world. We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, and test mechanical components and systems using mechanical engineering theory and application principles.
  • Design mechanical systems and components for use in down-hole drilling and production logging applications where tools must function to 150C temperatures and survive a high vibration environment.
  • Evaluate operational systems, prototypes and proposals and recommend repair or design modifications, based on factors such as environment and system capabilities.
  • Develop and utilize apparatus and procedures to test mechanical components and systems.
  • Prepare engineering documents and specifications for product and systems operation.
  • Examine schematics, technical drawings, and supporting documents to develop, compute and verify specifications, such as configuration of parts, dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools and mechanically functioning equipment.
  • Lead the integration of product design and structure into the Company's new or existing systems.
  • Conduct research, design, evaluation, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, tools, assembly, systems and processes to meet requirements for product improvement and development.
  • Define structural design of products for drafters and designers using computer-assisted design (CAD) software including SolidWorks.
  • Address customer and field service reliability and safety issues with timely engineering analysis and design solutions.
  • Adhere to and improve safety standards.
  • Mentor other engineers and/or manufacturing staff in the technical aspects of design, test, and documentation.
  • Provide technical support and instruction to team members or customers regarding equipment standards and operation.
  • Evaluate failed system scenarios and determine root-cause in conformance with the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • May act as a functional lead on engineering projects with team members, project managers, customers, vendors or other business partners.
  • Create and edit written procedures and process documentation.
  • Travel domestically or internationally may be required, up to 25%.
  • Manage work station and practice good housekeeping techniques.
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
  • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.
  • Existing product design improvement and testing.
  • Technical support with new and existing designs and products.
  • Maintain inventory of R&D stock.
  • Initiate new projects and determine project costs.
  • Actively improve quality performance and the effectiveness of the Quality Management System (QMS) by: not passing a defect or non-conformance downstream and fully understanding, diligently following and executing documented procedures to meet our quality objectives.

Key Job Competencies:

  • Proven skills in the use of practical application of mechanical engineering science and technology including applying principles (mathematics, statics, dynamics, heat transfer, etc.), techniques, procedures, and equipment to test and production.
  • Proven skills with machines and tools, including design, use, repair and maintenance.
  • Development of technical documentation using a combination of CAD, MS Office, and other resources.
  • Strong technical capabilities in design execution and product development.
  • Knowledge of advanced mathematics including calculus, statistics, physics, and other disciplines and their application.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and results driven environment.
  • Very strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to present oneself with professional appearance and behavior in accordance with ATC dress code and SDI Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to meet all SDI/ATC safety requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to read, communicate, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally.
  • Adhere to established Company procedures and policies, work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results.
  • Ability to be a team player/builder.
  • Must be tactful and able to resolve disputes between departments and settle personnel
  • Possess the ability to be interactive with management staff and co-workers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 2-10 years' experience as a mechanical engineer.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with advanced computational software (FEA, CFD).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ISO 9001 and ANSI Y14.5
