Volunteers of America - Greater New York, Inc. is Hiring a Recreation Specialist (ONS941) Near New York, NY

Position: Recreation Specialist (ONS941)Summary: The Recreation Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of recreation activities and programming appropriate for the client population. Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree and one year of relevant experience with a similar populations or high school diploma or GED with at least two years relevant experience. Supervisory Role: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Principal Responsibilities: The below enumerated principal responsibilities are inclusive of both program specific and firm-wide related administration, as applicable. Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs. Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation. Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing clients motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills. Coordinate programs with case managers in order to facilitate success of In-Reach sessions. Develop contacts with various sources for off-site activities. Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports. Provide aftercare to assigned clients who have been placed / discharged from the facility. Perform other related duties as required.Expected Results of Principal Responsibilities: 1. Programs and activities will be in line with program goals and objectives; clients will have access to an array of support, socialization and recreational activities. 2. Socialization activities will be enhanced to increase to client involvement and develop their socialization skills clients will be engaged and receptive to program services. 3. Clients will be consistently engaged to accept program services and immediate needs addressed. 4. Program will have an array of resources to enhance clients’ socialization skills. 5. Data collected will be accurate and complete and reports will be completed and submitted on time. 6. The outcomes/results for the client and the program will be successful; reduced recidivism rate. 7. Related duties are performed accurately and on time. Work Environment:While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in both an office and residential shelter environment.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to have visual acuity, talk and hear while communicating with peers and/or clients. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending and reaching. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds.Position Type: This is a full-time position
