Overview

Vitro, the #1 manufacturer and distributor of automotive glass In North America has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Engineer. This position will be located at our plant in Westland, Michigan. This position is responsible for the technical management, maintenance and development of an existing production line while maintaining a safe work environment and high quality standards in order to meet customer requirement and plant objectives. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible to lead technical improvements in the area that they are assigned. This is done by following the lean six sigma process. The successful candidate may be responsible for process, product, or equipment improvements. It is expected that they would work in a manner of continuous improvement and document improvements to share with other manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities

• Management of Maintenance department (SMX contract or Vitro) and plant hourly GMM workforce.• Manufacturing – meet the budgeted speed and yield parameters of assigned processes. Supervise and Maintenance and GMM to achieve documented results (OEE, Planning, Process Documentation, Scrap Level). Coordinate all improvement projects identied to support agreed targets.• Process & product development – Work with Product Launch in standardization, process and product development. Support Kaizen program.• Environment, Health and Safety – Contribute to a safe, healthy and environmentally sound workplace which promotes the continued wellbeing of employees, equipment, facility and community. Ensure that all new machines and equipment modification meet legal and safety standards.• Financial Control – Develop, implement and control spending for both Capital and Maintenance Expense budgets to ensure expected plant efficiencies and financial returns. Managing plant spare parts inventory.• Human Resources – Provide training and guidance to Engineers and other employees impacted by process change to ensure high quality personnel performance and development.• Strategy – Participate with the local leadership in planning and implementing strategic initiatives to ensure long-term viability of the local and regional corporate entities.• Quality – Identify and eliminate problems before and as they occur using the corporate values of Lean, Six Sigma, Fairness, Customer Concern and Rapid Response. Actively participate in troubleshooting activities, root cause analysis and corrective actions related to customer complaints.• Continuous Improvement - work with Continuous Improvement Team to improve process efficiency, safety, and 5s in working areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably mechanical, electrical or equivalent) is required• 3 years related production/process experience is preferred • A working knowledge of computer aided-design equipment and computerized processes is preferred• Knowledge of SAP & TPM preferred• Strong technical knowledge of glass cutting, edging and bending for the automotive industry is preferred • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for interactions with management, peers, other associates, vendors and contractors• Ability to trouble-shoot, analyze and resolve problems, plan, organize and share information• Ability to work independently and manage projects to established timelines as performance is measured against project goals and specific assignments
