About VIP
Visual Image Photography was started in 1978 by Tom Hayes. Our goal since we began has been to take the best picture possible every time we press the shutter. In 2015, Tom's daughter Courtney became the new owner of VIP when he retired. The foundation of being committed to creating beautiful portraits continues to be a family tradition for over 40 years.
Our work culture is built on a team oriented mindset that has fun and brings a smile to the job everyday. Teaching new photographers the skills to create beautiful portraits, and helping our current staff to continue developing their skills is important to our company. Our team is people oriented, socially connected, and fun to work with.
A Day in the life of a Photographer
No day is the same as the next when you are a photographer! Traveling around the Chicago region and being on time to your photo assignments is something you'll do every day. Travel times are generally 30-60 minutes depending on the location of your photo assignment. Travel time is paid. Mileage and tolls are reimbursed for your commute around the Chicago region. We also have portrait studios located in Vernon Hills, Lisle, and Lemont.
You will be the face of VIP at our schools, youth leagues, and other VIP accounts. Our friendly, efficient teams make picture day an enjoyable experience for school faculty and administrators. Parents, students, and athletes learn to count on our team members to create portraits that preserve these important moments in their family history.
There is a lead photographer on your photo assignments, so you're not on your own. Returning photographers are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge in order to advance into a lead role. Senior portraits and school portraits are primarily taken indoors, while sports teams and individual portraits are taken inside or outside, based on the time of year, weather, and sport/s being photographed. Weekend assignments during the peak of each season are generally on Saturdays.
Work Schedule
Part-time seasonal work, with overtime hours available during our peak times during the entire school year. While our office is open from 8:00-5:00, Monday through Friday, we have photo assignments that range from early mornings, during school hours, evening hours, and on the weekends. Expect to work 10 Saturdays per year, with some Sunday work as well.
With a flexible approach to scheduling, VIP is able to accommodate most class schedules, vacation requests, and your freelance work.
