Vision Integrated Partners (Midwest) is Hiring a Sterile Processing Technician Near Creve Coeur, MO

Description

At Advanced Surgery Center, in Creve Coeur, MO. (St. Louis Area), we we have an immediate opening for a Sterile Processing Technician. The Sterile Processing Technician is assigned duties performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Knowledge of processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals, and medical instruments sufficient to be able to decontaminate and sterilize equipment, supplies and instruments.
  • Maintains records for QA and sterilization.
  • Assists with inventory management
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all surgery center policies, procedures and standards and quality of service.
  • Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with Department of Health and Human Services, OSHA, AAAHC, and AAMI standards.
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate.
  • Maintains flexibility to rotate shifts and adjust hours as needed.
  • Maintains a work record of regular attendance, timely arrivals and departures.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Overtime may be required based on business needs.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS (Experience, Skills and Education):

  • Previous experience as a Sterile Processing Technician; certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Certification (NICHSPDP or ISCHIM), preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

ADDITIONAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (Based on Experience and Business Need):

Sterile Processing Technician Level I

All duties and responsibilities as stated above plus:

  • Experience but not yet certified

Sterile Processing Technician Level II

Same as level I plus:

  • Obtaining certification.
  • Materials management

Sterile Processing Technician Level III

Same as level II plus:

  • Cross-trained as a Scrub Technician

ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS (OSHA Category 1):

  • Works in clean, well-lighted, ventilated, temperature-controlled patient care areas.
  • Works around equipment and machinery with moving parts.
  • Receives exposure to hot and/or cold temperatures, chemical vapors, communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and infections.
  • Has skin contact with solvents or other chemicals including but not limited to: alcohol, acetone, detergents, bleach and rubber, vinyl or latex gloves.
  • May encounter radiation hazards.
  • May suffer possible lacerations, scratches or punctures.
  • May suffer possible injury from confused, disoriented or combative patients, or minor injury from equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards:

  • Able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat or twist repeatedly using proper body mechanics.
  • Able to quickly stand from a sitting position repeatedly more than 75% of an 8-12 hour shift.
  • Pushes/pulls objects of 80 lbs. routinely and 250 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must raise arms above shoulder level routinely and frequently.
  • Carries 20 lbs. routinely.
  • Frequently walks up and/or down stairs and/or uses step stool as needed.
  • Demonstrates dexterity, coordination, and full range of motion in both hands.
  • Requires vision and hearing to be within normal range with or without correction.
  • Able to maintain skin integrity despite frequent hand washing and use of alcohol-based sanitizers.
  • Able to work a 10-12 hour shift if necessary.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Must be in compliance with the requirements released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), the State of California, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and a variety of public health authorities and professional organizations.
