Virginia Eye Institute is Hiring an Ophthalmic Technician Near Midlothian, VA

The Virginia Eye Institute is hiring! VEI is a large and dynamic practice of ophthalmologists and optometrists in the Richmond, VA area, including eight locations and an ambulatory surgery center. We are searching for an Ophthalmic Technician to work with our physicians. We are seeking candidates with a passion for eye health and a dedication to excellent patient care. If this sounds like you, keep reading!!We are seeking reliable candidates with outstanding patient service skills. The ideal candidate will be a team-player, self-starter, friendly, motivated, organized, and have the ability to work independently while sustaining a team environment. A caring demeanor and the ability to build and maintain patient rapport is critical. The candidate must be highly productive, eager to learn, and motivated to succeed. This position will be responsible for conducting patient screening and testing in a timely and efficient manner and assisting the physicians with procedures as requested.RESPONSIBILITIES:In this role, you will be responsible for communicating with patients and obtaining their patient history information as well as performing certain test as requested by the physician. Patient History – chief complaint, history of present illness, past history – both ocular and general health, family history, allergies, and current medications.Perform the following diagnostic tests or skills and thoroughly describe the test or skill to the patient if performed in the patient’s presence:Perform test such as tonometry, refraction, visual acuity, color vision, manual lensometry, pupil testing, auto refraction, and/or basic Slit Lamp Examination. Other tests may include automated visual fields (perimetry), auto keratometry, corneal topography, and external photography. Enter information / results into the patient’s electronic medical record. Follow government guidelines for medical record entry and coding.Clean, cover, and store equipment and instruments at the end of the day.REQUIREMENTS:Current JCAHPO certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred and at least 2 years of experience in a supervised setting as an Ophthalmic Assistant. Minimum education: HS diploma or equivalent; prefer Associates degree or some college education in science related or medical related fieldStrong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, management, and co-workersAbility maintain a high degree of confidentialityDemonstrates attention to detail SIGN-ON BONUSVEI is offering sign-on bonuses for experienced certified and uncertified ophthalmology technicians that join our team.
