Position Summary

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a Production Supervisor, Weekend Shift covering all composite manufacturing on 2nd shift. If you join us in this position, you will work closely with lamination, structural bonding processes, and tools for composite assembly, while adhering to company and industry standards for the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

• Develop and maintain production culture of safety, quality and high output that is consistent with the high standards of Virgin Orbit.
• Measure and report on key metrics (safety incidents, quality incidents, work complete, productive hours, downtime etc.) to key leadership team.
• Plan work and lead shop floor resources covering filament winding, composite assembly, lamination and thermal protection systems.
• Own safety on the shop floor including developing policies associated with safety and PPE.
• Organize appropriate training to ensure skills are in line with work required.
• Work with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure that facility layouts include human factors including safety and ergonomics.
• Ensure the production team follows best practices using standardized work instructions.
• Interface with area leadership and prioritize work based on production schedule and organizational goals.
• Organize production teams and cells to meet quality and delivery requirements.
• Supervise team members in line with company policies and procedures.
• Conduct performance appraisals in line with company goals and requirements.
• Proactively lead cross functional process improvements through effective coordination with Quality, Compliance, Purchasing, Safety, Manufacturing Engineering and other stakeholders, as required.
• Hire, train and lead team members, be willing to lead by example and jump in to help when required.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field

• Minimum of 2 years experience in a supervisory/lead role is required• Must be willing to work Weekend Shift (6:00am-6:00pm) 

• Experience working with MS Office & ERP systems

• Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement• Ability to add something unique and positive to our team• Generally high level of all-around awesomeness• Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed• Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum• Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces• Physically able to handle items weighing up to 25lbs (unassisted)

• Certifications or similar within aerospace, aviation or automotive is preferred

• Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space• Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
