Title: Athletic Director
Reports To: High School Principal
Terms of Employment: Full Time 12 Months
FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt
General Job Description:
Coordinates all athletic programs within the high school and collaborates with Athletic Directors at middle schools to ensure successful middle school athletic programs.
Supervises:
* High School Grounds Maintenance
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree
* Previous experience as a coach, athletic director and/or administrator
* Valid North Carolina Driver's License
* Must possess and maintain a current North Carolina commercial driver's license with
* proper endorsements and a current Bus Drivers Pocket Card
* Must pass a DOT drug and alcohol testing
* Must never have been convicted of a DWI Offense
Essential Job Functions:
* Working with the principal, selects, assigns and evaluates coaches
* Schedules all athletic contests, fields and facilities
* Schedules all game officials and security personnel
* Attends home athletic events and away athletic events whenever possible, working in conjunction with the principal and assistant principal(s) to ensure coverage of all home events
* Ensures student athletic eligibility according to North Carolina High School Athletics Association (NCHSAA) guidelines
* Responsible for evaluating candidates for head coaching positions and making recommendations to the principal based on this evaluation
* Serves as liaison with coaches and principals to address student discipline impacting athletic eligibility
* Attends relevant meetings regarding conference and state NCHSAA business
* Coordinates athletic budgets, working with coaches to ensure equity across all sports
* Plans and coordinates athletic awards programs
* Plans and coordinates printing and selling of programs for varsity contests
* Ensures that all student athletes are insured
* Maintains records and ensure appropriate training, including first aid training, for all coaching staff
* Maintains a current physical for each student athlete
* Arranges transportation for all athletic teams
* Maintains an active athletic program that promotes sportsmanship and welcomes competing teams and guests
* Coordinates details of visiting teams' needs
* Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds
* Serves as a liaison between coaches and the athletic boosters clubs
* Maintains records of the results of all athletic contests and athletic scholarships
* Ensures that the athletic facilities/fields are properly maintained
* Administers the high school's athletic program and its feeder middle school athletic program(s)
* Assesses the school's athletic program and its feeder middle school athletic program(s)
* Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by principal
Physical Requirements:
Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20
pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move
objects.
Must be able to:
* operate a variety of equipment including athletic equipment, lawn/field equipment (lawnmowers, tractors, etc), computers, copiers, overhead projectors, and data projectors
* operate a motor vehicle
* listen and communicate effectively in order to gather, convey or exchange information, including giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants
