VILLAGE OF LAKE ZURICH is Hiring an Information Technology Specialist Near Lake Zurich, IL

We are looking for an information technology professional to join our team. Consider using your technical skills and knowledge to move your career to the next level.

This position reports to the Management Services Director and manages computer operations, technical information systems including analog/digital telephone, video broadcast and security systems for all Village Departments (Administration, Community Development, Finance, Fire, Parks & Recreation, Police, Public Works). The position is located at Village Hall, 70 East Main Street in downtown Lake Zurich. Business hours are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday with evening meetings.

Position responsibilities:

  • Partner with contract technical staff responsible for day-to-day desktop operations.
  • Communicates with users directly and is responsive to user’s needs in a flexible but coordinated, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Acts as technical support advisor and establishes positive working relationship.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new developments in both hardware and software, new programming techniques and other technological advances that may have an impact on the Village’s information processing abilities.
  • Provide after-hours support as needed – 24 x 7 accountability.
  • Ensure proper functioning of the Village’s information processing system across eight (8) in-town locations and makes upgrades as necessary.
  • Facilitates the broadcast and recording of Village meetings including maintenance and appropriate equipment upgrades.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Projects include:

  • Assists in managing implementation of performance enhancement projects, new systems and programs, preparation of status reports, writing of conversion specs for testing and training end users.
  • Works with users to define and develop specifications for new systems/programs. Defines system/program flow to meet business expectations.
  • Maintains working relationships with vendors and third-party providers, ensuring contracts are kept up to date and cost maintenance strategies are assessed and analyzed on a periodic basis.
  • Recommends appropriate maintenance strategies and enhancements to ensure uninterrupted systems usage and proper backup and recovery procedures are adhered to.
  • Provides capital and operational budget input.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Information Systems or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous experience in systems analysis and computer operations.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft virtualization, current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, system performance monitoring and cybersecurity
  • Expertise with implementing, configuring, and testing solutions.
  • Experience with implementing and managing cloud-based applications
  • Considerable knowledge of desktop computer and server operating systems including virtualization techniques. Preference given to someone that is operating system vendor agnostic (yes, we have Macs and i-devices)
  • Understanding of network technologies and configuration of equipment from various vendors including wireless, copper and fiber transports.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of system designs, development, program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Skill in organization and prioritizing work.
  • Ability and willingness to go hands-on as necessary.
  • Skill in multi-tasking, communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with village officials, coworkers, staff, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

Compensation and Benefits:

The hiring range is between $60,000 – $75,000 DOQ. This is a full time, exempt position. The Village offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, medical, dental, and vision coverage (all also available to dependents), life insurance, flexible spending account and voluntary participation in a deferred compensation program. Also includes a generous paid time-off package as well as participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement System (IMRF).
