Viking Engineering and Development is Hiring a Welder Near Fridley, MN

Viking Engineering is seeking a full-time Welder in our Fridley, MN production shop.

Climate-controlled facility with daytime shift hours!

Position Description

  • To weld a variety of metals and their alloys. Requiring all-position welding to print specifications.
  • To manufacture and fabricate welded assemblies supplying customers with various high quality components, close tolerance components, and complex components.
  • To weld and assist in designing and documenting "special" equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Welding steel and Aluminum Mig .035 hardwire all position.
  • Using various fixtures, weld various quality complex components and assemblies.
  • Complete quality weldments on time. Record time and labor.
  • Clean up weldment, deburr and despatter. Maintain shop equipment (welders, grinders, cords, etc.) and do general housekeeping.
  • Sets up and performs welds of moderate complexity from blue prints and specifications. Also does own set ups.
  • Assist engineering with prints and documentation design.
  • Prepare finished weldments for painting.
  • Assists in the selection and training of new employees on welding procedures.
  • Able to work on all of our standard equipment frames with limited support.
  • Performs all necessary computer inquiries
  • Conducts daily activities according to documented quality system procedures and work instructions. Identifies and reports non-conformities in product and quality system according to procedure.
  • And other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four years experience; combination of schooling and work experience in related field. Have own tools per Viking's list.
  • Must be able to read blue prints.
  • Must be self motivated, detail oriented, and have a positive attitude.
  • Be able to work with limited supervision.
  • Capable of operating forklift, Mig welder, Tig welder, Plasma cutter, along with various other shop tools.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Have basic problem solving techniques and troubleshooting; as related to welding component parts not straight, straighten.

  • Occasionally the employee is required to climb or balance.
  • The employee must regularly be able to lift and move up to 10 lbs, occasionally lift and/or move 25 lbs, and at times lift and/ or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly works around live voltage wiring. The noise level in the manufacturing area is moderate to loud.
