The Compliance Specialist position provides support to the department responsible for providing regulatory guidance throughout all stages of compliance program administration to meet a range of clients’ needs and resources. Although this position will have the flexibility to work from home, candidates will need to regularly attend client audits in New York and New Jersey and may be expected to commute to our New York office twice a week in the future.

Requirements

Candidates should be in the Tri-State area and able to work in an NYC office at a future date.

Responsibilities of our Compliance Specialist include but are not limited to:

• Reviews client Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance with the state regulations and guidance at the direction of the Director of Regulatory Compliance and other Senior team members including Attorneys
• Assists the Director of Regulatory Compliance to build the compliance program including compliance classrooms and ongoing training programs based on industry developments and trends in enforcement actions
• Keeps up to date on regulatory developments as well as evolving best practices in compliance
• Conducts compliance reviews for marijuana, marijuana product, and hemp product packaging and labeling and marketing and advertising
• Conducts on-site facility audits for operational compliance, inspection preparation, and best practices for a compliant operation
• Assists clients with the implementation of best practices for audits, inventory control, security requirements, and facility design to allow for an efficient and compliant operation
• Prepares compliance checklists, training materials, and documents to support compliant client operations
• Provides responsive ongoing communications with clients regarding expectations and deadlines 
• Manages workflow to meet timelines, maintain program efficiency and help provide deliverables 
• Assists with document formatting, proofreading, and editing 
• Create and maintain the department’s databases of FAQ and regulatory violations with the firm’s responses 
• Files and maintains digital and physical records 
• Tracks metrics involved with workflow to assess and report on a number of clients, projects, turnaround, etc. 
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Regulatory and compliance experience are highly preferred but not required
• An analytical mind able to "see" the complexities of procedures and regulations and their application to business operations preferred
• Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards preferred 
• Experience working with an administrative or regulatory agency in a highly regulated industry is a plus
• Experience writing and editing manuals and/or reports preferred
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with clients, the public, and individuals at all levels of the organization in a positive, collaborative manner
• Positive attitude and willingness to be a team player
• Exceptional organization skills, strong self-motivator with high attention to detail
• Excellent time and deadline management skills in a fast-paced environment, ability to juggle multiple projects and reprioritize quickly and efficiently
• Excellent oral and written communication skills including familiarity with common legal terminology
• Must be able to uphold the highest standards of discretion and confidentiality and exercise good judgment on day-to-day decisions
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Google, and the internet
