Overview

About the Position

VHB’s Bedford, NH team is looking for a versatile Traffic Engineer to join our growing Transportation practice. The selected candidate will work with a team of traffic engineers and transportation planners on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands, and aviation.

Our ideal candidate has an interest in the practice of traffic and transportation engineering and is eager to expand upon initially developed skills by applying practical solutions to real world problems for our clients. Our ideal candidate is open to learning, developing, and growing experience on a wide variety of small to large infrastructure projects including sidewalks, trails, intersections, arterial roadways, urban roadways, interstates, and interchanges; traffic signal design and timing; and traffic and transportation studies for land development projects and corridor planning. This position offers an opportunity to enhance a diverse set of skills on transportation design, operations, and/or planning projects throughout this expanding region.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of professionals to develop traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects
  • Conduct traffic impact studies, transportation planning and scoping analyses
  • Collect and tabulate traffic and safety data
  • Prepare written planning documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
  • Conduct intersection and roadway level of service analyses
  • Develop intersection designs, including the design of traffic control devices, roundabouts, and multimodal facilities

Skills and Attributes

  • Collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • Knowledge of local and state traffic and transportation regulations
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner
  • Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in traffic and transportation engineering
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Skilled in industry-standard engineering design and analysis systems (MicroStation/AutoCAD, Synchro, HCS, Sidra) a plus

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • 1-3 years of traffic engineering experience
  • Engineer in Training certification preferred
