Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing Environmental practice is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our dynamic team in Wethersfield, CT. This candidate will work with a team of professionals to conduct a wide array of ecological, wildlife and water resources related studies and analysis for a multitude of environmental, land development and energy projects (e.g., wetland functional assessments, wildlife habitat evaluations, and rare species surveys).

Responsibilities

  • Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
  • Work with a team of professionals to conduct a wide array of ecological, wildlife and water resources related studies and analysis for a multitude of environmental, land development and energy (transmission and renewables) projects (e.g., wetland functional assessments, wildlife habitat evaluations, and rare species surveys)
  • Data analysis, field investigations and technical report writing
  • Ability to utilize and work with GIS applications for field collection and desktop analysis
  • This position may include night/weekend shifts and/or working in challenging weather conditions

Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to work confidently and independently on highly active construction sites
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills as this position will require coordination with subconsultants and colleagues in other office locations regularly
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to grow professionally
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Strong communication skills between clients, contractors, and state/federal officials

Qualifications

  • BS in environmental science, natural resources, environmental planning, wetland science, soil science, ecological sciences, or related field
  • Experience with environmental permitting and NEPA compliance a plus
  • Ability to use GIS applications for field collection experience is a plus
  • 0-1 years of environmental natural resources field experience required
