Vexus Fiber is Hiring a Field Engineer Near Lake Charles, LA

Summary:

The Field Engineer will be responsible for the design and engineer standards related to the Vexus Fiber plant construction. The Field Engineer is responsible for all design engineering functions to include FTTP design, permitting, right of way, CAD drafting and project management. The OSP will also be responsible for development, coordination, maintenance of the CAD/GIS based fiber management system used to draft engineering designs through full representation of the construction as-build. Field Engineer will be responsible for project oversight from conception to implementation.

Major Job Elements:

  • Provide direct telecommunication fiber network design within a GIS/CAD system.
  • Ensure engineering/design activities comply with company design and budget standards.
  • Ensures engineering records and systems remain accurate for the geographic area
  • Create plans and specs for engineering work packages including CAD drawings, Splicing schematics, bill of materials, and prints as required.
  • Provide project engineering and management responsibilities for overall construction schedule
  • Provide technical support for construction, including participation in construction planning
  • Assist in the development and implementation of field computer applications to facilitate the control and collection of data for mapping (gps)(gis)(kmz), inspection, quantity performance, schedule performance and as-build documentation
  • CAD drafting of telecommunications system designs, including but not limited to as-staked construction records and as-build construction records.
  • Drafting of Right-of-Way permit drawings
  • CAD Drafting of operational telecommunications systems work orders and special projects.
  • Ensures engineering records and systems remain accurate.
  • Coordinate with the Design or Engineering Manager to assure completeness and correctness of design and construction documents
  • Ensure engineering records and systems remain accurate for the geographic area
  • Qualified candidate should be pro-active in anticipating and initiating jobs so they are complete on time
  • Monitors work in progress and assist construction forces with engineering advice as needed
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and techniques to be applied to design and build of outside plant facilities.
  • Promotes a positive company image to customers, co-workers, contractors, management, and others
  • Attends various meetings with management, departments, contractors, government agencies, vendors, and others to ensure company objectives are being met.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of fiber telecommunications OSP systems design, including voice-grade telephone service (POTS), fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), hybrid-fiber coax (HFC)
  • Good listening, verbal, written communication skills, and above average mathematical and problem- solving skills.
  • Skill in prioritizing, completing multiple tasks, identifying problems and finding resolutions.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to be highly motivated and meet deadlines, perform under stress and achieve optimum results.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to pay close attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines in accordance with company policy.
  • Demonstrate dependability through good attendance, punctuality and adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and project a positive attitude.
  • Able and willing to continue business skill development, training, and schooling as needed.
  • Required to travel over the entire service area both alone and with others
  • Accuracy is a must in preparing staking sheets to ensure that all construction will meet applicable codes. Failure to do so can cause unnecessary work and/or create unsafe working conditions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office program, OSP record data base applications, and computer aided drafting systems
  • Ability to perform field site meets; meet with developers, customers, local agencies
  • Construction experience a benefit
  • Skilled with ArcGIS, Autodesk AutoCAD, KMZ

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or an associate degree in an Engineering discipline preferred with minimum of 2 years of OSP Engineer experience
  • Or a minimum of 5 years of OSP Engineering experience is required.
  • Have five years of project experience. Two ( ) years of large-scale telecom design preferred
  • Fiber Construction experience a benefit
