Position Title: Accounting Supervisor

Status: Fulltime 40 hours per week, benefits eligible
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, hours between 8:00am to 4:30pm

Supervises, coordinates and trains accounting staff on all aspects of the accounting department. Provide accounting support to the CFO and applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.
Essential duties and responsibilitiesinclude any combination of the following:
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing, Cash Management and Banking, Fixed Assets and Inventory and General Accounting Operations functions of the organization. Complies with all applicable federal, state and VMRF policies and procedures. May perform the duties of staff in all areas of accounting.
Accounting Responsibilities: Analyzes major accounts and prepares monthly reconciliation of subsidiary accounts to general ledger.
Accounts Payable (A/P): Ensures processing of A/P transactions are completed accurately and in a timely manner with proper supporting documentation. Reviews and approves bi-weekly A/P check run.
Accounts Receivable (A/R): Ensures processing of A/R transactions are completed in a timely manner with proper supporting documentation. Reviews and posts A/R transactions in the computerized accounting system.
Purchasing: Ensures processing of purchasing transactions are completed in a timely manner with proper supporting documentation.
Cash Management/Banking: Ensures processing of Cash Management/Banking transactions are completed in a timely manner with proper supporting documentation.
General Accounting Operations: Provide analysis of financial data as necessary.
Financial Close and Reporting
Competencies: Must possess an understanding of GAAP, fund accounting principles, Uniform Guidance regulations. Analytical skills that demonstrate ability to comprehend complex or diverse information, collect and research data; Can identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Demonstrates attention to detail.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Internet software; Order processing systems; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, as well as excellent typing/keyboarding and editing skills.
Other Skills and Abilities: Proven ability to handle and work with detail. Able to review/prepare large volumes of paperwork rapidly and accurately. Able to design workflows and procedures. Complies with all applicable federal, state and VMRF policies and procedures. May perform the duties of staff in all areas of accounting.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited college or university and four years related experience or an equivalent combination of Accounting experience and education. A minimum of one-year supervisory experience is required. Must have strong understanding of GAAP. Must be able to analyze accounting data, interpret results, and make fiscally responsible recommendations. Must be proficient at Excel and have strong abilities to use computerized software systems.
