Veterans Health Administration is Hiring a Registered Nurse--Nurse Manager--Domiciliary Near Los Angeles, CA

The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare(VAGLAHS) is seeking a highly skilled/experienced Registered Nurse to serve as the Nurse Manager (NM) within our Mental Health Services. Demonstrates leadership,experience/ingenious approaches to management of complex patient care. Accountable for the management of patient care, human,fiscal/material resources, & the total environment of the unit.Responsible to ensure that the highest possible quality of care is achieved & a safe therapeutic environment.

Qualifications:

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
  • Master's in nursing (MSN) preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from one of the following: American Heart Association - Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers OR the Military Training Network (MTN) Provider Certificate/Card Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from one of the following: American Heart Association - Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers OR the Military Training Network (MTN)
  • At least 3 years of successful nursing practice as a nurse leader (Nurse Manager, Acting Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse or Team Leader) preferred
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Evidence of self-direction or organizational skills
  • Evidence of effectively educating patients and patient families

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
  • Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
  • Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
  • Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
  • Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
  • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience.
For foreign education equivalency the only certifying body the VA recognizes is CGFNS and its' subsidiary, International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Without certification of BSN-equivalency, the VA can only consider the degree at the associates level and pay will be determined accordingly

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (35 lbs and over); Heavy carrying (35 lbs and over); Straight pulling and pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing up to 8 hours; repeated bending; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; hearing aid permitted.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and other team members.
  • Promotes a Just Culture environment in building a climate for effective performance while allocating available resources to promote safe, efficient, effective, and quality nursing/patient care.
  • Observes and evaluates the quality of nursing care provided including interdisciplinary patient rounds, reviewing nursing documentation in clinical records, and collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data related to the delivery of patient care.
  • Assure the compliance with all regulatory agencies and standards of practice ANCC and implementation of required actions to meet Performance Measures.
  • Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to patient care, organizational processes, and systems, and improves outcomes at the program or service level.
  • Initiates an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs for self and staff.
  • Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues with patients and staff, including initiating, and participating in ethical consultations.
  • Initiates interdisciplinary projects to improve organizational performance.
  • Implements an educational plan to meet changing programs or service needs for self and others.
  • Maintains knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues.
  • Coaches' colleagues in team building.
  • Responsible for daily operations of cardiac catheterization laboratories, including, but not limited to scheduling of staff; triaging resources to assure timely, quality care delivery; resolving equipment, information systems, and facility problems; responding to internal and external customer demands; and collaborating with other hospital departments to coordinate patient care.
  • Oversees and manages the growth and expansion of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
  • Assures patient care delivery by providing direct patient care and providing back-up for patient care as needed (i.e., call outs, difficult cases, short-staffing, and on-call staffing).
  • Involved in functions such as recruitment; hiring; coaching; payroll processing and administering disciplinary policies. Responsible for goalsetting, on-going measurement of goals, administering the recognition program, and all other human resources prog
  • Contributes to the strategic planning process, day-to-day operations, Logistics Management, Budget, Staffing, Human Resource actions, Hiring and attainment of goals of the organization.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients as needed
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday. 07:00 a.m. to 04:30p.m.
