WHO WE ARE

VerticalScope (TSE: FORA) operates one of the 10 largest social media networks in the US. Our platform includes over 1,000 websites and 100 million monthly visitors. Our mission is to enable the world to share expertise and discover knowledge on subjects they love. We operate at the intersection of community, content, and commerce; and believe in the power of enthusiasts to inform and inspire.

THE ROLE

At VerticalScope, we are reimagining the future of online forums and are looking for a UX Designer to join our team. As UX Designer you will have the opportunity to own the experience of products that the team builds. The question that you will focus on is, “How do we make this product more user-friendly?” and continually iterate based on user feedback. You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and the wider Design team at our parent company, VerticalScope (TSE: FORA), as well as colleagues in other functional roles. We believe in the equal partnership of Design, Product, and Engineering in the product development process where seamless communication and collaboration is essential. The team moves at a fast but manageable pace and will experiment often, so if you enjoy a less-structured environment that encourages you to explore, learn, and push your limits, you will have fun. This is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-focused public company with a startup mentality.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Create low- and high-fidelity prototypes using Figma/Sketch/InVision
  • Conduct usability tests to discover and fix usability issues before and after they go into production
  • Focus primarily on interaction design, and secondarily on visual design
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, the wider Design team, and other teams as necessary
  • Conduct user research as you see fit
  • Other related responsibilities and ad hoc projects as negotiated and needed to meet the ongoing needs of the company

ABOUT YOU

  • 5 years of UX Design experience, working directly with Software Engineers, Designers, and PMs
  • Experience launching and growing successful consumer products
  • Proven ability to take a vague problem statement such as "Redesign the X experience" and know what to do with it
  • Familiarity with with the user-centered design process
  • Experience with Figma, Sketch, and/or Invision
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work autonomously, interdepartmentally, and cross-functionally
  • Fast-learner, eager to master any unknown territory you’re faced with
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

YOU’RE A GREAT FIT IF YOU ALSO HAVE

  • Startup experience, and/or experience within the fast-paced environment of early stage product development
  • Interest in forums and online communities
  • Ability to travel between Canada and the US periodically
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Computer Science, or a related field
