We’re adding a Senior UX Researcher to our team. As a Senior UX Researcher you will work with a team of researchers. Along with the team, you will be responsible for helping ensure the user is at the center of everything we do and for articulating user research insights to design, technology and business leadership; being a strong advocate for the role of research in development.

The right person for this role will be a strong positive voice in design, a part of strategic discussions and experienced in the relationship between research, design, business and technology. You will inspire and influence others to develop products and feature improvements that meet the needs of end users. In this role, you will conceive, plan and conduct primary research in the form of user studies, interviews, and surveys, etc., and translate that research into actionable insights. Your research will inform the user experience design of various technology products and services, but also how it relates to the human machine interaction design space. You will also design and conduct usability studies to validate design decisions and ensure a great user experience. Responsibilities of Role:

  • Independently plan, conduct and report user-centered research (rapid ethnography, usability testing, etc.) around users’ needs and behaviors in order to help inform product initiatives (websites, mobile apps, mobile web, living room apps, etc.).
    • Execute quantitative and qualitative research projects from start to finish, including developing a research plan, recruiting, moderating, analyzing results and presenting findings.
    • Observe and analyze user behavior and present actionable insights to stakeholders, including technology and design teams.
    • Conduct independent research as well as partner with the other UX researchers to assist on studies.
    • Facilitate workshops rooted in the design thinking methodology to innovate new solutions to meet evolving customer needs. 
  • Synthesize research findings into concise, actionable insights and meaningful visual frameworks that support a deep understanding of customer needs and solutions that support those needs. 
    • Use design techniques such as design briefs, wireframes, process diagrams, user flows or journeys to prototype and effectively communicate customer needs, pain points, key tasks and opportunities. 
    • Use effective communication and storytelling techniques to bring ideas to life and gain influence, buy-in and adoption across a wide variety of teams and departments.
  • Champion and evangelize research within the organization and demonstrate excellence in user research process, communication and industry leading research techniques.
    • Educate and consult various teams on how to incorporate user research and facilitate evidence-based product and design decisions.

What We’d Like to See:

  • A strong research point of view coupled with a flexible, versatile and collaborative approach to project work.
  • 5 years of experience designing and conducting research studies, analyzing data, creating meaningful and actionable results, and working successfully with teams to act on and internalize those results.
  • Ability to translate business needs and research requests into research goals and tasks.
    • Thorough knowledge of User Experience and Usability research techniques (for example, contextual inquiry and ethnographic field studies, one-on-one interviews, focus groups, usability testing, concept testing, competitive assessment, diary studies, etc.
    • The ability to identify an appropriate research methodology to uncover desirable information, and to work with business stakeholders to understand the answers we need to pursue through research.
  • Strong decision-making abilities. Must be able to take research findings and make actionable recommendations for improvements.
  • Proven track record using research to impact product direction and vision.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to comfortably conduct face-to-face interviews and focus groups.
  • Proven ability to present research findings and insights in a concise and logical manner to various audiences to gain alignment.

Nice to Haves:

  • An MA/MS or Ph.D. in a research related field such as psychology, human factors engineering, interaction design, or the equivalent is preferred.
  • Certification from Human Factors International or NN/g with UX Research Specialty is strongly desired.
