Job Description: The Tax Intern is responsible for preparing assigned tax returns (income, sales and informational) and assisting all members of the Tax Department in any and all miscellaneous matters to improve efficiency of tax department and ensure that all processes are completed timely. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure with a growing and dynamic company while working part-time 20-25 hours/week. The internship will begin in January 2023 and last one (1) year with the possibility of an extension. Responsibilities Income Tax Preparation with exposure to federal, state and local taxation. Introduction to many aspects of tax with training provided in tax preparation software. Income Taxes Assist Tax Accountants in preparing accurate and timely filings for all assigned federal, state and local income tax returns Aid Tax Accountants in maintaining accurate and complete tax files with post filing information such as notices, adjustments, and/or refunds Prepare supporting schedules for federal, state and informational returns Retrieve, compile and organize voluminous data from general ledger and tax depreciation software for complex calculations Prepare K-1 packets to joint venture partners Specialty Taxes Prepare recurring monthly and quarterly sales tax returns Respond to applicable specialty tax notices/inquiries Assist in preparing business licenses Qualifications Candidates should possess the following: Must be sophomore standing or higher and have successfully completed two (2) courses in Accounting Tax experience not required, but a plus; willingness to learn tax is essential Must be a self-starter and be able to work in an environment with deadlines and management pressure Proficient with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with other Microsoft Office products Strong written and verbal communication skills Must be available to begin internship in January 2023 Ventas, Inc. offers a competitive compensation and benefits package to the successful candidate.
