Description

At Ventana Canyon, nestled in Tucson Santa Catalina foothills, the sun rises across our pristine 600-acre desert preserve with its flowering landscape, rolling hills, winding riverbeds, craggy canyons, and pine-topped peaks. The Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club is a beautiful and secluded member-owned country club with 36 holes of championship golf and 50 guest suites, rated as one of America's top golf resorts.

The Lodge at Ventana Canyon is seeking a Skilled Director of Human Resources to oversee and perform various professional activities in support of Ventanas centralized Human Resources function, including DEIB, recruitment and retention, compensation analysis, resort policies and procedures, training and development, internal communications, recognition and reward, and colleague relations.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead, develop, and manage the resorts Human Resources department and provide direction and guidance on departmental issues and challenges.
  • Spearhead company-wide staffing processes; identify and recruit highly qualified talent by effectively sourcing, interviewing, assessing, and selecting candidates for employment; work closely with hiring managers across the property to achieve positive and timely results.
  • Identify, develop, recommend, and implement programs and systems to retain colleagues, including communication processes, succession planning, career path opportunity programs, and recognition and reward strategies.
  • Identify development needs and options to support business objectives; work with management and staff to ensure development opportunities are presented and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Respond to organizational needs for staff training opportunities; identify appropriate tools and resources utilizing in-house expertise, commercial vendors, and other educational providers.
  • Develop a training and development strategy and methodology; work with Executive Committee to ensure key stakeholders needs are addressed; conduct a periodic evaluation of training and development initiatives to plan for future needs and budgeting requirements.
  • Partner with the Corporate team on company growth initiatives and create an organizational development framework and methodology in preparation for scale.
  • Apply knowledge of state and federal employment regulations to ensure compliance with all employment-related actions and activities, including but not limited to workplace operations (discrimination & harassment, the operation of workplace policies & procedures), discipline, and employment protection programs (FMLA, ADA, HIPAA).
  • Oversee selection and administration of benefits, including group health and welfare plans, profit-sharing/401(k), short- and long-term disability, term life, and other ancillary benefits.
  • Serve as advisor and business partner to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors and contribute solutions to a variety of operational and management issues and challenges.
  • Partner with the Executive Committee to resolve colleague relations issues daily and recommend preemptive/preventive interventions.
  • Partner with the corporate senior management team to define and implement integrated human resources policies and procedures and organizational development processes.
  • Establish processes and systems to manage performance throughout the resort.
  • Support management in regular performance feedback sessions; ensure proper communications with the staff regarding performance expectations and issues; work with staff and management to develop and implement interventions to maximize high-quality (and consistent) performance.
  • Research, create, and manage annual HR budget; provide insights and support to various (new) initiatives; lend expertise as appropriate to lead select initiatives.
  • Create and/or properly maintain all human resources documentation and record keeping required by regulation or necessary to business operations.
  • Oversee the resorts compensation system for the purpose of offers, merit increases, promotions, or special pay adjustments; participate in the approval of all pay changes, including initial offers, and any special compensation actions (special bonuses, relocation packages, and the like).
  • Maintain or direct the maintenance of compensation data; provide compensation guidance to management as needed; provide compensation reporting to corporate senior management as requested.
  • Oversee the documentation and tracking of various staff changes and issues.
  • Work with the HR team to ensure all Colleague Action Forms are completed and communicated to the appropriate entities; maintain accurate and timely data in the Resource Management system/HRB.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelors degree in Human Resources or Business Administration is preferred.

Must have a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in a senior human resource role, preferably with a club resort hospitality environment. Extensive experience in managing a broad array of Human Resources functions, including DEIB, employment, colleague relations, and related administrative duties.

Strong computer skills, with knowledge of all Office programs and HRIS.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Strong leadership abilities based on professional knowledge, business acumen, and senior level partnering.
  • Fiscal responsibility and knowledge and background in creating and managing a budget.
  • Strong negotiating, consultative, influence, and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive colleague or business issues.
  • Broad professional knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and related compliance issues.
  • Knowledge of policy and procedure as related to colleague benefits.
  • Experience in recruiting talent for a variety of jobs utilizing an array of sources.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret retail product labeling. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
