We have a full-time direct hire REMOTE opportunity available for a Principal Software Engineer. This individual serves as a technical expert, lead, and architect on large and complex projects. This person would be responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining complex web-based application systems, such as user interface, e-commerce applications, and integrations. Troubleshoots and solves the complicated software issues. Research technical problems and suggests improvements for web applications. Analyzes and integrates new web products and technologies with existing web applications to improve the application functionality.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

• Leads the team as a high-level technical expert in design, development, coding, testing, and debugging new software or significant enhancements to existing software. Defines system architecture, design, and documentation. Defines and adheres to development standards, including naming conventions, source code control processes, security protocols and code deployment processes. Manages priorities on multiple assigned projects.
• Assists with project planning by providing estimates, task definitions and progress updates throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) within established methodology. Interacts directly with customers on requested improvements and enhancements.
• Assists in training and mentoring less experienced developer team members. Manages and performs code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and tools.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, and related field
• 4 years of application development using a defined modern framework
• 2 years Agile Development Methodology, desired
• Will accept an associate degree with 7 years related experience in the above area
• 2 years development team leadership experience, with responsibilities for design, development, and quality of the team deliverables, desired
• Strong desire to learn and try new approaches
• Strong knowledge of development architectures, frameworks, and tools
• Strong attention to quality, details, root cause problem solving, and follow-up
• Strong ownership of overall deliverables
• Data modeling/schema, data structure and network systems
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Support and maintenance, including both internal and external customer interactions
• Knowledge of one or more cloud platform services, such as AWS, desired
• Ability to deliver working solutions on time
• Experience with developing and running unit tests
• Ability to travel 5%
