The Role

Veeva Systems is looking for a bright, energetic, self-motivated Senior Database Administrator focused on customer-facing production infrastructure. This is a hands-on position and will work closely with the Operations, Engineering, and Support teams. You must be a strong team player that thrives working with speed in a fluid entrepreneurial environment. If you have at least 8 years of experience supporting primarily MySQL database and other database flavors servers in Production IT or customer-facing SaaS environments, we want to hear from you!

What You'll Do

  • Use backup and recovery best practices to ensure systems are protected from data loss in compliance with established business continuity and DR practices
  •  Define, develop, and deploy system monitoring requirements/thresholds as well as corrective actions
  •  Document all operational processes and procedures to optimize support and management of deployed systems
  •  Production Operations tasks
  •  Provide 24x7x365/On Call support within a rotation
  •  Contribute towards new and ongoing Technology projects in areas of Scalability, Performance, and High Availability
  •  Responsible for space management, backup, monitoring, and DB performance

Requirements
  • BS/BA Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
  •  5 years of experience as a MYSQL DBA
  •  2 years of experience with Linux-based systems
  •  Experience with high-availability database solutions and architectures
  •  Experience implementing a variety of data models, data access, and table maintenance codes
  •  Extensive experience resolving moderate to complex DB performance and capacity issues, replications, etc.
  •  Experience in configuration, upgrade, maintenance, and security
  •  Experience executing MYSQL database backups, restores, and replication
  •  Advanced level knowledge of SQL
  •  Extensive experience working within structured change management processes
  •  Experience with process automation as it applies to the provisioning of resources within DB Engineering
Nice to Have
  • Scripting skills in any UNIX shell, Perl, and/or Python
  •  Software as a service [SaaS]
  •  Ability to develop requirements for the tool sets needed to streamline and automate system installation and configuration procedures
  •  Experience developing ansible and/or Terraform scripting
  •  Experience building, supporting, and troubleshooting multi-tier, high-volume, production web installations (Load balanced server pools, App/DB, tier, etc)
  •  AWS RDS/Aurora replication, backup, and configuration management
  •  Experience with DB monitoring and log management software
  •  Implementation/authoring of operational procedures
  •  Develop processes for optimizing database security
  •  Postgres administration
  •  Slow query diagnosing
