JOB SUMMARY:

The Central Processing Technician Trainee Program is an innovative on-the-job training program and will be 12-16 weeks in length. At the end of the program you will be prepared to advance your career by becoming a Central Sterile Processing Technician. As a Central Sterile Processing Technician, you will provide a continuous flow of sterile/reusable supplies, equipment and surgical instrumentation which require centralized collection, disinfection, inspection, assembly, preparation, sterilization and monitoring to hospital areas with occasional guidance. You will learn to recognize the hundreds of different instruments our surgeons use in our life-saving procedures.All training will be based upon The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM). IAHCSMM is the premier association representing healthcare Central Sterile Processing (CSP) professionals worldwide. The Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification program is designed to recognize entry level technicians who have demonstrated the experience, knowledge and skills necessary to provide competent services.
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
The Perioperative Services Department at Vanderbilt University Medical Center performs more than 45,000 surgeries in 60 operating rooms. We have 3 Ambulatory Surgery Sites and 3 in house surgical suites. As a level 1 trauma center, some of the most complex and challenging surgeries in the nation are performed here.
Our Sterile processing department is comprised of two locations that work together to ensure high quality instruments needs are met for patients and surgeons. Work is performed at either the Main VUMC campus OR or at our facility nine miles away at 3326 Briley Park Blvd.just off Brick Church Pike near I-24 and Briley Parkway. With the use of our instrument tracking system, we excel in the preparation of reusable instrumentation and equipment for clinical and surgical procedures across the entire campus. Services include but not limited to Robotic, Endoscopic, Laparoscopic, Cardiac, Trauma, Neuro, Spine, Orthopedic, Ear Nose and Throat, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Donor, and transplant services. Our commitment is “Every Patient, Every Time”.
Position Shift & Locations:

  • Training will take place Monday-Friday during the 1st shift (07:00-15:30)
  • Nashville State Community College (2.5 days/week); VUMC (1.5 days/week)
  • Opportunity to work 8 hours/week to remain full-timeUpon successful completion of the program, participants will be assigned to work full-time, 40 hours per week, on any shift needed within the Vanderbilt System.
  • Participant placement COULD include any shift Days (07:00 – 16:30), Evenings (15:00 – 23:30), and Overnights (23:00 – 07:30).
  • Participant placement COULD include any VUMC facility

Position Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and 1 year relevant experience
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration (LCR):

License Required 1

Central Sterile Processing (IAHCSMM CRCST of CBSPD) within 2 years

Physical Requirements/Strengths needed & Physical Demands:
Heavy Work category requiring exertion of 50 to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 to 20 lbs. of force continually to move objects.
