About the role
This position is full-time and on-site at our pharmacy in downtown Berkeley. This position is responsible for verifying the quality of compounded medications and providing consultations over the phone and in person. Reports directly to the Pharmacist in Charge.
What you'll do
- Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing workflow
- Verifies the preparation, quality, and labeling of compound medications
- Verifies order entries, charges, and inspections
- Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
- Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
- Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies.
- Develops staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.
- Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications
- A graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science or PharmD degree.
- Licensed and in good standing with the CA State Board of Pharmacy
- At least 1-3 years experience in compounding pharmacy preferred but not required
- Experience with pharmacy software, pharmacology, knowledge of legal compliance, FDA health regulations
- Pass drug screen test, background check, the pre-employment verification process
- Read, understand, and be compliant with HIPAA
- Dependable, punctual, ability to meet deadlines, lead a team, be accountable, and have good ethics and etiquette
- Ability to manage a pharmacy, including working with budgets and ensuring staff is trained and knowledgeable on Valor's policies and procedures and State’s Pharmacy Rules and Regulations
- Excellent customer service skills
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, in the English language
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to problem solve effectively
- Ability to follow policies and procedures
- Motivated self-starter with a great attitude, flexibility, and entrepreneurial spirit
- Able to work under pressure to prioritize and manage workload, manage simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines within a fast-paced and changing environment
- Working Conditions: standing, walking, sitting, reaching above shoulders, reaching waist level, reaching below the knee, climbing, lifting above shoulder up to 20 lbs and lifting waist level up to 20 lbs.

Valor’s pay band range for this position is $66 to $69 per hour. This salary range may include multiple levels. Your level is based on our assessment of your interview performance and experience, which you can always ask the hiring manager about to understand in more detail. Salary is just one component of Valor’s total compensation package for employees.
