Are you ready for the next step in your career? We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer. As a Senior Structural Engineer, you are responsible for the structural design, reliability and adequacy of equipment manufactured by the company and its subcontractors through the application of appropriate design codes and analytical methods. What will you do at Valmet? Provide the lead structural/mechanical support for Design Engineering and Project Management on direct customer projects. Use finite element analysis including geometry creation and meshing or other analytical methods to assure required design criteria are met on critical components. Validates and confirms results of finite element analysis with the application of structural engineering equations, or hand calculations. Develop software or other standard analysis tools for solving structural and mechanical problems and develop procedures for operating Valmet supplied equipment. Review and approve or provide feedback of submitted designs in a timely manner to meet project schedule. Provide structural support for manufacturing and subcontracting to address non-conformance issues, suggest alternate methods, or designs and/or check structures being used. Keep abreast of recent developments in structural analysis, finite element, welding, brazing, additive manufacturing, and incorporate developments as appropriate to continually upgrade analysis capabilities. Travel to customer or subcontractor sites to inspect equipment, provide structural recommendations/solutions or assess non-conformance issues and develop remedies to solve the problem. What You’ll Need: Master of Science in Mechanical or Structural Engineering preferred. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Structural Engineering with a concentration in machine design and/or structural analysis is required. A strong background in strength of materials, stress analysis, fluids, thermodynamics, and structural design is required. Five years’ experience in related field including extensive use of finite element analysis of machine components and structures is preferred. High skill level with ANSYS software including structural finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics (FLUENT software) is preferred. Proficient in advanced engineering skills, among which are fatigue analysis, transient thermal analysis using finite elements, dynamic analysis, knowledge of structural codes, knowledge of material behavior, and fluid flow analysis using computational fluid dynamics.
