UW Credit Union is hiring a Director of Software Engineering to lead our growing Internet Services Team!

The Director of Software Engineering is responsible for development and execution of the business to consumer software engineering strategy in support of UW Credit Unions overall digital delivery strategy. This technology-apt leader guides the engineering team in the overall software architecture, development, security, testing, deployment, hosting, and monitoring of leading-edge software systems for our members. The position is also responsible for overseeing the administration and maintenance of UW Credit Unions external web and mobile software applications, ensuring high availability and top-notch user experiences. In collaboration with other Internet Services leaders, this position is responsible for the evaluation, design, and integration of existing or proposed software systems to support e-commerce applications.

Software Engineering Strategy & Excellence 30%

  • Responsible for the strategy to optimize the delivery, quality and maintenance of software solutions supporting our digital delivery strategy.

  • Lead Internet Services management on prioritization, project planning, resource management and operational efficiency.

  • Direct management of software architects/senior engineers in the development and maintenance of software engineering patterns, practices, and guidelines to deliver high quality software solutions consistently and efficiently.

  • Direct the developer operations infrastructure including development environments, automated test systems, application deployment systems, application telemetry and application hosting platforms.

  • Responsible for system security, performance, reliability, response times, maintainability, and defect rate. Manage engineering resources and prioritize system improvements.

  • Implement and direct a quality assurance program including integration tests, test maintenance, adherence to coding guidelines, code security, bug management, external source code review and external application audits.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Digital Experience and other Internet Services Leadership to provide alignment to across all tracks, including operations, product management, user experience, quality assurance, developer operations and engineering.

  • Partner with the VP of Digital Technology on business planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.

Continuous Learning and New Technology Exploration 20%

  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of technology developments in the fields of software development, software security, software deployment, software testing and software hosting infrastructure.

  • Create and direct a program for the ongoing technical development of the Internet Services team through learning activities, coding challenges, periodic code reviews, one on one focused coaching, team presentations and formal documentation.

  • Provide a framework for the ongoing discovery, experimentation and prototyping of tools, coding techniques and technologies.

Cross Functional Leadership, Collaboration and Consulting 25%

  • As a member of the UW Credit Union Leadership Team, participate in strategic planning, annual improvement plans and CU-wide budgeting and resource allocation.

  • Maintain high level of awareness of emerging technology trends in financial services. Provide recommendations on technologies that help achieve business goals.

  • Collaborate with IT on hardware, software, and licensing needs to maintain performance and compliance.

  • Collaborate with Project Services on project analysis, resource scheduling, and project execution.

  • Consult and collaborate with business units on developing software solutions to meet business goals, solve problems or refine processes.

  • Participate in projects and initiatives across functional and organizational lines.

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 10 years engineering enterprise software and leading software development teams.

  • Building and maintaining complex, large scale, distributed software systems.

  • Software security development and management.

  • Large scale database design, implementation, and management.

  • Mobile and web application development.

  • Transactional e-commerce software systems.

  • Familiarity with C#, T-SQL, ASP.Net, JavaScript.

  • Agile project management methodology.

  • Research, analysis, problem solving, design and delivery of software solutions.

  • Ability to positively interface with management, employees, corporate staff, and outside partners.
