Utah State University is Hiring a Network Engineer Near Logan, UT

Overview

Utah State University is seeking a Network Engineer to join the USU IT organization in architecting, updating, and deploying efficient, effective, scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures, services, and systems. Responsibilities

  • Contribute technically and culturally in USU enterprise-level network planning and design.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS).
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades.
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
  • Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
  • Select and implement network security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the University's security team.
  • Develop and maintain network automation tools.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent 1 years hands-on, professional working experience with enterprise networks or BS degree in technical field.
  • Basic understanding of standards-based networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, VRRP, GRE). Preferred experience: Deeper, more advanced, network protocol knowledge/experience.
  • Solid understanding of routing and switching concepts.
  • Ability to work in a mixed-vendor environment. Preferred experience: Juniper and HPE / Aruba.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.
  • Ability to work well with peers and colleagues.
  • US Citizenship required due to the security level of information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • API and network automation experience.
  • Firewall experience – Palo Alto a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of MPLS, L3VPN, VRF-lite.
  • Basic knowledge QoS.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems

  • Network Engineer I:
    • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Network Engineer II:
    • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus two years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Network Engineer III:
    • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus four years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Network Engineer SR:
    • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus six years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
