Utah State University is Hiring an Information Security Engineer Near Logan, UT

Overview

This position is a security-focused member of USU Information Technology's uniquely combined team of systems and security professionals. This Secure Systems Engineering team is responsible for architecting and securing USU's most important and relevant technology services. Does the following describe you?

Then apply to join our Team! We will be hiring this position at a Level I, II, III, SR, or Lead dependent on the successful applicant's education and experience (see position classifications below). The position will be compensated according to minimum qualifications (Systems Administrator I, II, III, SR, or Lead) plus experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage on-premise and cloud tenant security (Microsoft 365, Google, Box, etc.)
  • Manage Multi-factor Authentication systems
  • Monitor and respond to system, network, and application log events
  • Participate in regular vulnerability assessments
  • Provide security related advice, feedback, and training
  • Create and maintain documentation
  • Participate in incident response teams
  • Stay abreast of security landscape
  • Audit and assess internal and 3rd party systems and applications
  • Design, implement and maintain security systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • See Position Classification Qualifications below for necessary experience/education requirements
  • Job offer contingent upon successful completion of a background check
  • US Citizenship required due to the security level of information
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbally with others
  • Proven proficiency working with limited supervision
  • Understanding of networking and OSI model
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Competence with Linux, MacOS, and Windows operating systems
  • Understanding of web application technologies and web application security testing
  • Respect for privacy and confidentiality
  • Familiar with incident response process
  • Scripting experience
  • Adhere to the IT Core Competencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Regulatory compliance experience and understanding
  • Industry certifications
  • Experience with SIEM, NIDS, NIPS, ELK, etc.

Position Classification Qualifications:

Systems Administrator I:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Systems Administrator II:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus two years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Systems Administrator III:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus four years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Systems Administrator SR:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus six years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Systems Administrator Lead:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or related field plus eight years of related work experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
