Utah State University is Hiring an Academic Tutor Near Price, UT

Overview

Tutor positions are open to currently enrolled students and community members who would like to serve in a tutoring capacity while positively representing the institution. A math tutor will provide individual and small group tutoring to students in a walk-in tutoring center. A tutor will help students who enroll in mathematics to understand the course material and learning objectives. A tutor will assist them in concept development, problem solving, and study skills. A tutor should have the essential characteristics of professionalism, skill-sets in subject area, and ability to devote adequate time to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor and assist students during scheduled office hours only.
  • Check preferred email daily for work updates and notifications.
  • Provide a detailed weekly schedule of availability for work every semester, and inform the ATC supervisor at least 24 hours in advance if unable to work or requesting schedule change.
  • Attend and participate in department staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other tutors.
  • Keep a log of all hours worked, including days, times, and tasks completed. Log in each scheduled workday to log hours worked through AggieTime.
  • Ensure tutees complete a sign-in sheet as a participant.
  • Communicate frequently with the ATC supervisor and report tutees that may need additional resources.
  • Contact instructors to obtain course syllabus and material to discuss with a tutee.
  • Advertise tutor services as required.
  • Attend mandatory tutor training sessions as required by the Student Services and Enrollment Management department.
  • Maintain good standing and follow the Student Code of Conduct and other university policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment as a USU Eastern student with 6 or more credits OR a community member with appropriate reference to validate skill-set to tutor subjects.
  • **Students should acquire recommendation from the instructor of the desired course to tutor.**
  • Students must maintain a 3.00 semester GPA; community members will engage in A or other suitable training to increase skill-set.
  • Exceptional listener and communicator who enjoys working with others.
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to build rapport with a diverse population.
  • Team player who excels at building trusting relationships with students.
  • Dependable, responsible contributor committed to excellence and success.

  • Willingness to learn new skills or techniques.

For Math Tutor:

  • Completion of one or more of the following classes with a B or better
    • Math 1050
    • Math 1060 or higher
    • Stats 1040 or 1045 or higher
