LOCATION OF WORK & TRAVEL: Seattle, WA, with limited travel
DESCRIPTION: Through strategic partnerships, the Human Resources (HR) team proactively develops and implements HR best practices aligned with institutional goals. Our focus is to deliver high quality service to our internal clients and support the recruitment, development, recognition, and retention of a high-performing and diverse workforce.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Human Resources Director is a strategic partner to the Chief Operations Officer and Executive Team. This role advises and manages the delivery of HR services across Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC), both domestically and internationally. The position works with colleagues across the organization to develop and implement institutional policies and facilitate communication with staff in human resources and throughout the company.

The Human Resources Director operates as a senior-level Leader and HR Business Partner to provide daily oversight of all HR functions, ensuring high quality services are provided to the business units. This role directly manages and oversees staff engagement, benefits, recruiting, learning and development, as well as overseeing the business operations of the HR department, including budget management, personnel development, and other administrative functions.

This is a player/coach role with a unique opportunity for a driven HR professional to take their experience to the next level with a mission-driven organization. Successful candidates will excel in relationship building, be experienced setting HR strategy and skilled at navigating ambiguity.

HR Strategy, Planning, and Management

  • Contributes to and manages the development and execution of HR strategies, projects and plans for domestic and international teams. Collaborates with COO to ensure integration and alignment of initiatives and resources.
  • Develops and improves HR policies, practices, and communications, including reviewing, providing guidance on, and contributing to drafts. Proactively seeks out new processes and systems for improving internal communication, project management, and other operations.
  • Provides senior level HR guidance to the Executive and HR team. Serves as a thought partner and strategic advisor to develop creative solutions for solving problems and improving the quality of the work product.
  • Fosters collaborative and effective relationships with management and leadership across the company to ensure institutional effectiveness, sound and expeditious decision-making, and efficiency.
  • Represents HR team at internal meetings as needed. Serves as a member on the cross-institutional Operations group.
  • Oversees the organization's compliance with international, federal, multi-state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices. Reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.

Learning, Recruiting, and Staff Engagement

  • Maintains awareness of diversity, equity, & inclusion (DEI) trends and concepts, bringing effective best practices and approaches to the organization's work.
  • Collaborates with research programs, business units and the HR team to ensure effective implementation of recruiting priorities, including the hiring and retention of a diverse workforce to help us ensure an equitable, inclusive work environment where all employees feel valued and can thrive.
  • Fosters and cultivates external relationships with relevant recruiters, networks, and partnerships. Identifies and implements creative ways to enhance knowledge of USNC among individuals, colleges/universities, professional associations, and other organizations. Tracks outreach efforts.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and assessment of USNC’s staff engagement survey, professional development and training initiatives and HR goals to ensure an inclusive, engaging, and high-performing organization.
  • Develops and oversees ongoing staff learning opportunities, skill building and management development initiatives. Implements learning strategies for recruiting, onboarding, training, mentoring, and retention.
  • Utilizes HR data to identify strategies and opportunities to enhance the overall employee experience organizationally and within each business unit.

HR Department Operations

  • Ensures high quality, responsive services are provided to internal clients. Continually reviews internal HR practices and processes with a focus on compliance and best practices that augment business needs, operational efficiency, and institutional structure and culture.
  • Develops and manages benefits and compensation programs.
  • Establishes standard operating procedures. Oversees HR business continuity planning.
  • Analyzes and utilizes metrics to strengthen delivery of operations and services, monitor and report on critical workforce indicators, and develop plans for continuous improvement.
  • Oversees the development and execution of the HR staff engagement action plan.
  • Assists with reviewing and auditing documents before completing final drafts as well as completes tasks related to compliance, audits, and related reporting.
  • Ensures high-quality vendor services and management.
  • Maintains ongoing relationship with Finance, including coordinating and managing the HR budgets.
  • Reviews results of affirmative action plan analysis and provides input on action-oriented plans for recruitment outreach.
  • Coaches and provides guidance to HR staff to include back up support as needed.
  • Stays current on effective HR trends and best practices. Establishes and maintains a network of professional colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as needed and participates in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field, Master’s degree preferred
  • PHR, SHRM-CP or SCP certification
  • 6-8 years of progressive HR responsibilities including Business Partner or Manager of department
  • International HR expertise and strong understanding of federal, state and local employment laws
  • Solid analytical skills, with an ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve and efficiently make sound decisions.
  • Team player with the ability to lead by example, take initiative and prioritize the company and team’s objectives.
