SUMMARYReporting to the Executive Director & CEO, the Chief Development Officer serves as the lead strategist and is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The CDO is responsible for the cultivation and growth of the USA for UNHCR donor base and the creation of a best in class donor experience. The CDO will spearhead the Strategic Framework Goals and Initiatives related to raising critical funds for refugees.
The CDO will partner with leadership (CEO, Board of Directors and critical international partners) to develop new partnerships (donor, corporations, foundations and others) to support USA for UNHCR’s work. The CDO will bring the newest trends in partnerships, marketing, philanthropy, donor experience and cultivation to the organization. Additionally, the CDO will be a member for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and support all initiatives to create a Best in Class organization.
This critical position will, in partnership with the CEO , develop state of the art campaigns and marketing and fundraising programs that will raise resources and supporters across the United States today while building new revenue streams for the future.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES● 2019 was the launch of the Board of Directors endorsed Five Year Strategic Framework Plan. The CDO will lead the team focused on the Strategic Framework Goal: Enable organizational excellence, sustained growth, and a best-in-class donor experience.
○ This goal includes three strategies:
○ Employ cross-channel donor cultivation, growth, and retention strategies to expand the donor base and pipeline (e.g., “sustainer first” approach, community fundraising, guiding the transition of mid-level to major donor, shepherding exceptional individual donors)
○ Apply donor sentiment research, data analysis, and segmentation to ensure a best-in-class donor experience
○ Optimize fundraising and operations to reduce the cost to raise a dollar and increase return on investments
● The CDO will manage the fundraising departments at USA for UNHCR: Peer-to-Peer Fundraising, Direct Response (Online Marketing, Offline Marketing), Donor Care, Major Donor and Planned Giving and Partnerships (corporations and foundations), and Fundraising Database Systems. Supporting efforts include staff training; donor stewardship; gift entry and acknowledgement; database management; and donor research.
● Attend and represent USA for UNHCR at national and international fundraising and donor facing conferences and meetings
● Advises the CEO, board members, and staff of current resources, trends, obstacles, and developments in revenue generation and donor relations
● Establishes and implements short and long-range resource development strategies, goals, objectives, and Strategic Framework in conjunction with the CEO and the Board of Directors
● Develops, in tandem with the fundraising team, finance team and CEO, the organization’s resource budget, monitors team performance on a monthly basis and maintains an on-going forecast for year-end projections
● Ensures close collaboration between and among all fundraising channels, communications, and advocacy and community engagement efforts
● Identify and create Best-In-Class cutting-edge successful campaigning initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE• 15 years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
• Bachelor's degree required, Master's Degree highly preferred preferred
• International fundraising and leadership experience

• Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside USA for UNHCR
• High energy and passion for USA for UNHCR’s mission is essential
• Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic framework plans
• Excellent strategic planning skills and the ability to create and enthuse a vision for USA for UNHCR’s resource moliblization future
• Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Expertise in Corporate, Foundation and High Net Worth gift fundraising highly desirable.
• Expertise in Direct Response fundraising or marketing highly desirable.
• Capital campaign development and expertise highly desirable.
• Broad and deep functional, organizational, and industry knowledge and expertise
• Strong leadership and management skills, as evidenced by 15 years of progressive management and leadership experience;
• Demonstrates passion for U4U’s mission
WORK LOCATION
Hybrid Washington, DC May also involve travel to some locations within the company’s region of operations and select donor locations.

$210,957 - $263,696
