Overview We’re searching for an experienced technical writer to join our team and help take our client-focused services to new heights. As an ideal candidate, you have proven experience in a highly technical field, such as software development, computer science, or engineering. Your ability to evaluate and analyze complex information is second to none, and you have a natural desire to help people understand things that are hard to understand. This is a remote work opportunity that may be filled anywhere in the United States. Role • Develop comprehensive API Technical documentation that meets organizational standards. • Create client facing documentation for Mastercard products, as part of creating a quality developer experience. • Obtain a deep understanding of products and services to translate complex product information into simple, polished, and engaging content. • Write developer-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience, turning insights into a language that sets our users up for success. • Evaluate current content and develop innovative approaches for improvement. • Research, outline, write, and edit new and existing technical documentation, working closely with various API subject matter experts to understand project requirements. • Independently gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write technical specifications, and process documentation. • Work with development and support leads to identify sources of information, revise and edit the material to create useful customer documentation and determine the best solution for presenting the documentation on our website. • Research, create, and maintain information architecture templates that uphold organizational and legal standards. Experience requirements: • Experience with REST APIs and Open API specifications (Swagger). • Experience with the docs-as-code approach to documentation. We work in markdown and git. • The ability to read and understand simple code examples or some background knowledge about web programming. We’re not looking for a full-time programmer, but our target audience are software developers so an understanding of how APIs and SDKs are used by developers will be useful. • The aptitude to try out web applications and APIs while documenting them so you can understand and then document how they really work, and to give feedback when things don’t work as they should or are difficult to use. • If you have any experience of working with Postman collections to try APIs or to show how APIs work in action that’s a bonus. All About You • Industry experience as an effective technical writer. • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics. • Previous experience writing technical documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences. • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail. • Experience working with engineering to document an API, with an eye for optimizing how a developer would interact with the documentation.
