Job Title: Controller - Retail
Reports to: CFO
Job Class: Exempt

Position Summary:           

The Controller - Retail will be responsible for developing and executing the financial statement accounting policies and process controls so that the wholesale division can meet our financial growth goals. This individual will be working closely with the VP of Finance and the other members of the executive management team to ensure that the financials are up to date and accurate for decision making and reporting. The Controller - Retail must be detail oriented, efficient, with a strong understanding of IFRS and GAAP accounting. This leader will need input from a variety of employees and must be an effective collaborator. The ability to lead and build teams, troubleshoot, manage relationships, and create foundational systems is critical to this role. This role will be ever changing and will require the candidate to be flexible and open-minded.

Duties and responsibilities for the retail division:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing the company’s operations on an on-going basis to create and maintain proper financial controls and record keeping
  • Managing the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting close processes
  • Accountable for the general ledger and reviewing balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy and completeness
  • Developing reports for management and regulatory bodies, including but not limited to projections, budgets, and reconciliations
  • Identifying and developing key performance indicators that align activities with operational goals Creating and managing budgeting tools to analyze budget-to actual/variance reporting, financial planning and analysis, and cost savings analysis
  • Anticipating and evaluating business needs to make sure that financial organization and systems appropriately support the company’s growth
  • Providing timely and accurate financial statements to the company’s tax accountants and investors
  • Managing debt covenants
  • Managing the retail division’s accounting team by setting expectations and supporting professional development 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience creating and managing financial reporting procedures
  • CPA required
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within public accounting
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • High integrity and openness combined with commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate activities across multiple locations and properties simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Experience in retail or startup environment a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with ERP Systems – Sage Intaact, LeafLogix, Wurk a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Education:

Must have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university
  • Four years’ relevant experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Valid California Driver’s License

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand/walk for up to 6 hours at a time
  • Must be able to sit for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds safely and properly
  • Ability to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment

Pay: $150000 - $175000 / year

Salary : $150,000 - $175,000
