About Urban Sky:
Urban Sky is a small, venture-backed aerospace startup pioneering the utilization of the stratosphere and reimagining the earth observation industry. At Urban Sky we design, build and fly unique stratospheric balloon systems. We build both our payloads and balloon systems in house at our Denver headquarters. Using the data we collect from our balloon systems we produce aerial maps and GIS data products. The data we collect supports applications ranging from real-time wildfire monitoring and disaster response to urban mapping and industries related to how our cities and the environment grow and change over time. We have developed the first ever reusable and precisely placeable stratospheric balloon, a new category of aerial vehicle we call the “Microballoon.” This vehicle can map the Earth in significantly higher resolution than satellites at costs far lower than traditional remote sensing aircraft. The Microballoon generates critical information about the earth, its growing cities, and its atmosphere, while directly replacing carbon-burning aircraft with zero-emission, fully reusable flight vehicles. We are a small team of engineers, makers, hackers, and doers that believe in the power of human potential when passion meets utility within a small, supportive team. We’re looking to build the next chapter of stratospheric history right here in Denver and are looking for self-starting, open-minded, hard-working team members who are ready to take on larger-than-life problems with a potential to positively impact the world.
About The Role:
Urban Sky is developing multiple electrical systems used in our stratospheric flight vehicles, all of which are fabricated entirely at our Denver headquarters including the fabrication of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies using state-of-the-art robotic assembly machines. These systems need to be extremely lightweight and operate in the harsh, near-space environment of the stratosphere making for a unique engineering and fabrication challenge. As our our payload production technician you would be responsible for the initial fabrication and maintenance of all Urban Sky payload systems and their components. These components range from fiberglass composites to 3D-printed plastics and printed circuit board assemblies. Candidates should be proficient at soldering, including soldering small components to PCBs under microscope and creating cable assemblies. Candidates should be comfortable with the assembly of small hardware systems including working with small threaded fasteners, epoxy, and thin sheet composites like fiberglass and carbon fiber. A can-do attitude, open mind, and an excitement for progressing space technology will make a candidate feel at home here. We hope to find a candidate that can grow with us, taking on new challenging roles as the company grows. Urban Sky has launched over 60 stratospheric missions and can launch as many as 3 missions in a single day; the systems this candidate builds will routinely go to the stratosphere and collect impactful data with a real-world impact.
