Summary:
Under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, the teacher will instruct students according to the prescribed UPREP curriculum. The teacher will perform related teaching tasks and functions such as planning, research, curriculum alignment, assessment, and record-keeping in an efficient and effective manner. As needed, the teacher will also willingly participate in the school community and student co-curricular activities. This is a full-time, fully benefitted, 10-month position teaching one section each of ASL I, ASL II, ASL III, and ASL IV.

Teacher Support: University Prep has a strong operational team with student managers at each grade level who support student achievement through a disciplinary model that includes students’ families. Administration provides all necessary instructional materials and support in a coaching model designed to build teacher confidence and competence. In-house professional development fosters teacher professional growth and is focused on increasing student achievement. Our graduating classes have exceeded a rate of 94% and all of our seniors have been accepted at 2 or 4 year colleges or training programs.

Description of Duties:

Works with classroom teachers to develop ASL/English dual language instructional programs and models; Provides leadership in the evaluation of students’ receptive and expressive sign communication abilities for reports in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings; assists teachers and support staff in designing appropriate instructional environments to support students’ sign communication needs; acts as a sign language resource to instructional staff related to language use, variation, technical signs, communication strategies, etc.; participates in the development of student evaluation reports by evaluating students sign communication abilities and participates in the decision-making process as a member of the evaluation team; performs other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:
Teachers must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and fluency in American Sign Language. Ideal candidates will possess, or be in the process of obtaining, the American Sign Language Certification.
