Experience the U Prep Difference! Why U Prep Schools?
As an educator, I think you will agree that not all schools are created equal.
Families choose U Prep Schools because they want the best for their children. Our families understand that education is a tool that has the power to shape the lives of young people today. They value our approach to delivering a culturally responsive education that prepares students to be independent learners and critical thinkers. They know that we are committed to ensuring our students are supported socially, emotionally and academically and are well prepared for college and careers in industries where diversity is lacking. Our scholars go on to become positive change agents in their community, many return to our schools as educators and have children of their own enrolled in a U Prep School.
U Prep Schools is a resource rich learning community comprised of 10 state-of-the art schools that serves close to 5,000 students in grades K-12. We are one of the oldest and largest networks in Detroit with three districts; University Prep Art & Design, University Prep Science and Math, and University Preparatory Academy, to include the new Ford Law Career Academy. At U Prep, our scholars participate in a variety of pathways that provide unique learning experiences that prepares them for the real world.
One of our most distinctive defining differences that originated over 20 years ago, is the Detroit 90/90 Promise; a promise to our families that all U Prep scholars will achieve a 90% graduation and 90% college acceptance rate. We stand behind our word and are committed to ensuring our scholars are prepared to achieve success in life. Check out the list of 20 Black Detroiters Making History that was published recently by the Skillman Foundation to learn about the impact our alumni are making right here in Detroit. We are so proud of our alumni!
There are so many things that set us apart from other schools in Detroit. If you are an exceptional educator who is passionate about children, delivering education differently and want to be part of a highly committed and energetic crew, then contact us today to learn more about the U Prep experience. We are looking to build our team that will help us to deliver on our promise and mission.

As one of the citys longest-standing tuition-free public charter school system in Detroit, we have served thousands of students and their families since opening our first school in 2000. Service to our students and families, means providing all children the access, opportunity and experience necessary to become not only university-ready, but life-ready. We were the first charter system in Detroit to make, and keep, the 90/90 promise which guarantees a minimum graduation rate of 90 percent and college acceptance rate of 90 percent. University Prep Schools has surpassed this standard with every ...graduating class since our first in 2007. Each school within our two districts University Preparatory Academy (UPA) and University Prep Science & Math (UPSM) may be distinct but they are uniformly held to the highest standards of student achievement and accountability. With a fervent resolve to ensure a culture of post-secondary readiness, U Prep Schools drives all students to reach their academic potential.
