Overview:

  • This position provides expert locksmith services by inspecting, repairing, replacing, and installing all locks throughout the campus and hospital.
  • This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assures safety to campus buildings and equipment by maintaining, repairing, and installing all locks.
  • Sets up and maintains all key records and system updates to ensure accurate and current information.
  • Provides assistance to departments concerning the implementation of new key systems.
  • Cuts new and replacement keys and files original keys using an approved key control system.
  • Responds to emergency reports of lockouts, key and lock problems, and security requests.
  • Discusses security needs with departments and determines the appropriate course of action.
  • Orders parts and supplies, as needed.
  • Updates all changes in the Key Management Systems.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Knowledge of the basic requirements of master keying systems.
  • Ability to develop appropriate key codes to fit existing master key systems.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to follow Plant Operations Key Shop policies and Building and Fire Safety Codes.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Two years of general locksmith experience, or equivalency.
  • Experience with manual and computerized key record and filing systems.
  • Depending on the area of assignment, a valid Utah driver's license may be required.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Graduation from an approved locksmith school.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves very physical work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects. The position may involve moving heavy equipment and/or supplies. The position involves the ability to handle physical exertion, such as periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching or similar activities.
