Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Accountant is a key position in the successful operation of the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) Business Office. Incumbent will prepare and provide financial analysis, account reconciliation and projections for departmental accounts and programmatic functions. Incumbent must be able to work well in a diverse environment coordinating financial activities with USG departmental managers, 9 USG partner universities and working closely with University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) business offices on variety of accounting initiatives, as well as managing the accounting records for donor accounts held at the University System of Maryland (USMF) Foundation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, in Accounting or related business field is required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of Accounting or Financial experience required.
  • Experience with and advanced knowledge of spreadsheets (Excel) required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of General ledger, Budgeting, Accounts Payable, and Procurement functions.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning System.
Preferences:
Preferences:
  • Master’s in accounting, CPA or equivalent.
  • Budgeting knowledge and exposure to year-end financial closing.
  • Experience in a university setting.
  • Experience using UMCP Financial Systems such as ARES, KFS, and BPM.
  • Knowledge of UMCP procedures and policies for Accounts Payable.
  • Knowledge of USM Foundation procedures regarding scholarships and other restricted accounts.
