Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of an experienced accountant or finance unit manager, position work assignments include some or all of the following: compilation and maintenance of records of routine accounting transactions; assistance in preparation and/or maintenance of accounting reporting systems; resolution of problems associated with incorrect entries, deviations from established procedures, and other inconsistencies with generally accepted accounting principles; may assist in analysis and interpretation of accounting records and reports and/or performance of administrative and clerical support duties as assigned; may direct the activities of temporary staff.
Duties may include:
  • Analyzing accounting records for accuracy and completeness
  • Reviewing records to assess proper classification and coding of income and expenditures
  • Ensuring compliance with university procedures in general accounting practices
  • Processing, updating and maintaining various accounting records and documents in accordance with university policies and procedures
  • Reconciling, reviewing and approving various accounting records and transactions
  • Preparing and correcting entries to various databases as appropriate
  • Generating standard and custom financial documents and reports
  • Analyzing and forecasting revenue and expenditure trends
  • Assisting customers with university policies and procedures or making referrals as necessary
  • Interacting with internal and external auditors and participate in auditing projects
  • Assisting with researching and interpreting relevant local, state and federal regulations, and filing required returns and reports
  • Assisting with researching and interpreting governmental accounting standards for financial reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or equivalent OR a Masters degree in accounting
  • No previous accounting experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a complex, decentralized accounting environment
  • Experience with governmental fund accounting
  • Experience with payroll tax filings
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and auditing procedures
