Position Classification

Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation, maintenance, repair, service, testing and inspection of equipment, machinery and fixtures in accordance with general direction and established procedures. Performs painting, grounds maintenance, and assists other maintenance classifications as assigned. Performs all other duties of subordinate maintenance classifications. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs routine corrective, preventative maintenance and scheduled tests, inspections, and service at assigned locations.
  • Maintains the condition and appearance of buildings, machinery, equipment and spaces as assigned by supervision.
  • Ability to perform carpentry duties as assigned.
  • Duties and tasks are varied, and range from moderately to considerably complex.
  • Applies advance skills in area of specialization.
  • May adapt procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet special needs
  • May periodically assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level employees.
  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Documents events, occurrences and activities with work orders, reports, schedules, logs and journals
  • Moving and grounds work may be assigned as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Minimal three (3) years work experience in a Level I capacity.

Experience and expertise in building maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred licensure requirements can be any of the following: State of Michigan certification in an affiliated field for maintenance, or any other certifications or licensure that would apply to the general maintenance field.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing tools and equipment safety. 
  • The ability to read and understand instructions, directions, blueprints, schematics, drawings and manuals.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Proficient in using a computer for work orders, logs, time and attendance.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

  • Job requires repetitive lifting of light weight objects with frequent bending and stooping, or repetitively lift average weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds).
  • The physical ability to left heavy to moderately heavy tools, equipment, supplies, etc.
  • The ability to climb stairs, stages, scaffolds and ladders.

Work Environment

  • Working conditions vary, exposed to all weather conditions as well as noise and heat when working indoors or outdoors.
  • Care and alertness are required in performing job tasks; hazards are reduced by observation of safety rules.

Salary/Pay Information 

$25.47 per hour/IUOE-M Grade 2

Anticipated Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Some after hours and weekend work may be required.

Licenses/Certifications

Possession of a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
