Faculty Position in Cybersecurity

(Temporary Instructional Faculty Position – Open Rank)

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for a temporary non-tenure track instructional faculty position to begin August 2023. This is a full-time academic year appointment for one year (AY23-24), with the possibility for renewal for up to a maximum of three years (contingent on funding, department needs, and performance). The search committee will consider exceptional candidates in all areas of cybersecurity. The appointment can be made at any rank commensurate with accomplishments.

The University of Delaware combines a rich historic legacy in science and engineering with a commitment to undergraduate education and scholarly excellence. A Carnegie R1 institution with external funding exceeding $200 million, the University ranks among the top 100 universities in federal R&D support. The ECE Department has active undergraduate and graduate programs in EE, CE and Cybersecurity (including a new BSc in Cybersecurity Engineering), and a diverse portfolio of research in the areas of cybersecurity, computer engineering, machine learning, nanoelectronics, electromagnetics, photonics, signal processing, communications and controls. The department is also the home of UD’s Center for Cybersecurity, Assurance and Privacy (ccap.udel.edu).

The candidate’s primary responsibility will be teaching, with a particular focus on design courses, as well as cybersecurity courses that are part of UD’s cybersecurity engineering BSc degree, cybersecurity MSc degree, cybersecurity minor and graduate cybersecurity certificates. Applicants should hold great promise for teaching excellence at the graduate and undergraduate level, and have a strong commitment to teaching. A Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a field closely related to cybersecurity is expected at the time of hire, though exceptional candidates with a master’s degree will be considered. Additional cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, OSCP, CCIE) will be considered a plus.

Applicants should submit a single PDF file including (1) a cover letter, (2) a complete CV with teaching experience in cybersecurity, (3) names of three to four references with contact information, (4) a statement discussing the candidate’s teaching record, interests and philosophy, and (5) a statement on commitment to diversity, uploaded to www.udel.edu/udjobs/. Questions may be addressed to Nektarios Tsoutsos (search committee chair) at tsoutsos@udel.edu. Review of applications will begin June 15, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. The University of Delaware is committed to diversity in hiring; women and people from diverse cultures and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. The University is also supportive of the needs of dual-career couples. All possible discretion will be exercised to maintain the privacy of applicants through the search process.
