Job Summary:

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position in Water Resources (groundwater/surface water hydrology and/or environmental hydraulics). We are seeking applicants with crosscutting expertise in one or more areas of analytical and applied hydrology including: contaminated groundwater remediation, porous media clogging and permeability; public health; global health, and/or sustainable infrastructure systems. Ideal applicants will also have experience or demonstrated interest in community engagement, equity, and social justice in their research and/or teaching.

The Department of Civil Engineering has 10 full time tenured and tenure track faculty, 4 clinical teaching track, and many part time lecturers. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including masters and doctoral, in civil engineering, construction engineering management, and construction management. While the civil engineering program has been accredited continuously since its inception, the newly formed construction disciplines have yet to be reviewed. In 2022, the department had 130 graduate students and 10 certificate students while the undergraduate disciplines had 296 students.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor:

  • Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • A strong academic record

Associate Professor:

  • Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • A strong academic record including significant number of peer reviewed publications
  • Record of external research funding and evidence of mentoring of MS and PhD student research
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and diverse student populations

Professor:

  • Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • A strong academic record including significant number of peer reviewed publications
  • Record of external research funding and evidence of mentoring of MS and PhD student research
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and diverse student populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, guide an active scholarly research program, integrate with current research activities, collaborate across discipline boundaries, and obtain funding from competitive external funding agencies
  • Engagement in professional service such as grant and journal referee and eventual familiarization with engineering accreditation processes is expected of all department faculty.
  • Commitment to enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the field through research, teaching, and service and would ideally be engaged in activities to promote it
  • An advocate of professional engineering licensure as indicated by having an active registration or a demonstrated plan to obtain such credentials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability and commitment to pursue and establish externally funded research programs and direct MS and PhD student research
  • Commitment to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses and diverse student populations
  • Expertise in one or more areas of analytical and applied hydrology including: contaminated groundwater remediation, porous media clogging and permeability; public health; global health, and/or sustainable infrastructure systems

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $90,000 - $95,000per 9 month academic year. Additional salary for summer months can be sourced from research funds or for additional duties.

Associate Professor: $95,000 - $105,000per 9 month academic year. Additional salary for summer months can be sourced from research funds or for additional duties.

Professor: $105,000 - $115,000per 9 month academic year. Additional salary for summer months can be sourced from research funds or for additional duties.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
