Job Summary Under general direction the Systems Programmer provides technical expertise, develops standards, guidelines, and processes for application systems. Translates business requirements into well-designed applications while balancing user and business needs, technical competencies, industry developments, and time constraints. Reviews the design and code development of key architectural components. Contributes to decisions on project and infrastructure needs, including the evaluation of server technologies, languages, platforms, and frameworks. Actively participates in regional and national Identity and Access Management (IAM) communities and organizations as appropriate. Formulates and defines specifications for complex IAM installations, maintenance, and upgrades. Identifies and analyzes performance and capacity issues. Leads the installation and maintenance of major operating system components, multiple program products, and ancillary system components. Serves as the technical authority on multiple operating system components. Works with users, business analysts and technical staff to resolve problems and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements. Addresses problems related to systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platforms. Diagnoses and repairs system failures. Provides on-call support for problem resolution. Takes an active role in developing departmental policies and procedures, as they relate to the use of programs. Develops user manuals and participates in user demonstrations and focus groups. Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge through a variety of information sources. Responsibilities Designs and develops IdM technical solutions which meet business needs. Evaluates capacity and performance issues. Documents technical solutions including specifications, models, diagrams and other documentation as requested or required. Supports production applications and environments 24/7. Effectively collaborates with members of the IdM team ensuring quality and delivery of solutions. Reviews and provides feedback on business requirements and proposed technical solutions. Participates in regional and national communities to expand and share knowledge unifying efforts to improve IAM. Brainstorms with team members to identify alternative solutions. Serves as a technical expert for the IdM team. Investigates, analyzes and resolves day-to-day technical problems using standard procedures. Works with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for developmental programs. Receives a moderate level of guidance to design applications to meet University and business requirements. Performs code testing on components and works to ensure that appropriate implementation standards are met. Evaluates design alternatives for development cost and solutions using various methods. Supports and maintains existing applications. Works with web developers and responds to requests from users. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. --- Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. --- Certifications: --- Preferred Qualifications Experience: A minimum of three years programming experience developing, implementing, debugging and maintaining applications utilizing Java and SQL. A minimum of three years working with IAM systems and technologies. A minimum of two years experience with Linux Operating System. A minimum of one year experience with Windows Operating system. Previous experience in higher education. Technical Skills or Knowledge: Experience with RDBMS systems such as Oracle or Microsoft SQLServer. Experience with Git version control software. Familiarity with LDAP. Open source software and collaborating on open source products. Familiarity with NOSQL databases. Single sign on technologies such as Shibboleth. Proxy software such as EZ Proxy. Internet2 Grouper. Network authentication tools such as RADIUS. Mentoring junior resources. Active Directory and Group Policy. Administering Windows servers. CBORD-CSGold. Oracle Hospitality (AKA MICROS). Preferred Competencies Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of software development. Professional and effective written and oral communication skills. Use standard software development applications and tools. Use analytical and quantitative skills and diagnostic techniques to resolve problems. Manage complex technical details. Familiarity with project management processes and methodology. Communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff. Effectively converse with, and listen to, all levels of users to understand their environment and the impact of system changes. Deep understanding of the cultural requirements on a campus for collegial and participative interactions. Work in a collaborative team environment.
