The UChicago Consortium is committed to better understanding the fundamental practices and conditions that advance student learning, promote attainment, and foster more equitable outcomes. We conduct research of high technical quality that informs policy and practice in the Chicago Public Schools, as well as schools nationwide. A central component of our work is engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders and stimulating evidence-driven discourse about the vital issues facing schools. Job Summary UChicago Consortium is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to participate in leading research at the Consortium. A Senior Research Scientist has an established national reputation as a leader in the field of education research, with a proven track record as a scholar with a quality body of work. A Senior Research Scientist will have been successful at identifying and obtaining funding for research projects. He or she has relationships with local and national educational policymakers, school administrators and practitioners, funders, and other researchers. A Senior Research Scientist also has highly developed expertise with advanced research methods, either quantitative or qualitative. In addition, a Senior Research Scientist is highly skilled at communicating complex ideas and research findings in an engaging way to a variety of audiences, orally and in writing. Responsibilities Serves as principal investigator on research projects and is responsible for all aspects of administering and leading research, including identifying and securing funding sources, applying rigorous methods to questions of policy and practice, and engaging with educational stakeholders. Develops and mentors staff and provides technical and outreach guidance to other researchers at the Consortium. Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with partners, including funders, policymakers, individuals in Chicago schools, the University of Chicago, and state and national educational research organizations. Supports the growth and development of the Consortium, participates in goal setting and strategic planning, and will advance the Consortium’s mission as a national model for producing highly rigorous and relevant education research. Provides expertise to researchers on compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Provides expertise to researchers and research support staff. Oversees activities related to data collection and analysis. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. --- Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7 years of work experience in a related job discipline. --- Certifications: --- Preferred Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in education, public policy, economics, sociology or other relevant social science or mathematical discipline. Doctoral degree in education, public policy, economics, sociology or other relevant social science or mathematical discipline strongly preferred. Experience: At least eight years of related experience in urban education research, policy and practice. Impact in educational research through at least 10 publications (books, articles, reports or book chapters) that have been cited by other scholars. Experience supervising research staff. Preferred Competencies Advanced qualitative research techniques and methods. Management of research projects. Passion for improving educational outcomes and supporting actionable uses of research evidence. Commitment to understanding and improving outcomes for students of all backgrounds and experiences. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, in collaboration as a team member, and in a supervisory role. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
